****s - Lloyds TSB and ATM Theft in Los

    [rant]
If, like me, you have an offshore account with Lloyds TSB in Gurnsey, for which you need to pay GBP 75 or more per annum (depending on the account you have and how many) for the delight of even having an account, then please be aware there is now a new form of ATM theft:

Last week Lloyds TSB hiked the loading fee it charges on overseas debit-card transactions from 2.75 per cent to 2.99 per cent. Once a second fee of £2 is added, it will cost you £4.99 to take £100 out of a cash machine abroad.

^seriously, you charge me an annual fee for even having a fucking account in the first place, then you charge me for ATM withdrawals.

As it happens, all round this is now a very bad deal for me. I make around 20% of my monthly revenue in $$$$ss, which is paid to Lloyds TSB in Gurnsey, and which I now need to pay to take out of at a rate of 5% or so.

Fuck it, I'm going to retire.

HSBC is better, 25 USD for cash advance of 400 Euros

And most places in Europe now will charge between 10% and 20% for cash advance because of too many bank frauds, they don't want to take the risks

so 5% withdrawal fee is actually a good deal. Things could get worse like with the Swiss Banks, where you have to thank your banker even when he is overcharging you or else he kicks you out and keep your money (or lose it)

to be honest, the only reason I can think of is that they are no longer allowed to charge late penalty fees on credit card payments, so poor old expat will get it in the neck.

Now I have two options when I visit Cape Town in December, walk around with several grand $$ss in cash in a DD-style bum bag, or pay through the nose every time I use my card.

Thanks guys, bet you'll still be taking my fucking annual charge you b'stards

To be honest not sure. The last time I used TCs was in India. At the time Amex ran an avert saying if your TCs were lost or stolen, you'd get a replacement within 24 hours.

I had failed to see the small print at the bottom that said this didn't apply to India, where, at the time (1995), computers the size they were using during WWII had just arrived, and in which case it took over two weeks. That experience kind of put me off the whole TC thing - especially given I was robbed from start to finish in India in one way or another

No, it not 5 pounds per hundred - including annual fees, it works out much fucking higher than that!

I used TC's in many of my global travels. I found them to be invaluable. Sign each one as a precaution & they are pretty safe - especially if accompanied with suitable ID. Later, when I lived in the US, I relied on an AMEX card, but always carried some TC's in reserve.

Also a nice way to shift large sums of dosh across borders.

But William, Guernsy banks are only for people who want to avoid paying tax.
And they are usually rich buggers who can afford those fees.

yes, I see your point. But either charge me an annual fee, or per withdrawal transaction - but not both.

Even in my business we don't get away with that scam

^we don't want to go down that road. How many times have % rates been raised in the UK over the last 12 months? How many times have these been passed on to customers?

^^ My uncle was a Bank Director (Barclays SA) at Head Office. I was advised that I could either be an engineer, or a banker. I chose the wrong one.
