Looking good Andy. Pretty interesting build and concept actually.
Looking good Andy. Pretty interesting build and concept actually.
The doc's got style. I'm looking forward to seeing this one come together.
Thanks guys, it is fun building something from scratch
when will it be completed?
Once you are done. You have a wall to build around Pattaya!
Houses are never completed, Travelmate
but we do hope to move in sometime before March
In the old log cabin bike shed or house with the dripping ceilings?
no unnerstan
back to the plot
more wood erected, now the floor joists going on
and MrTiler has also arrived with his team of happy brothers (sorry about the quality of this one)
anyway, they are starting on the bathrooms; white walls to 2 metres and a black slate-like non-slip floor
I have reported your post
Your house looks amazing Andy! Loving the thread so far.
thanks...more pics to be uploaded soon
I am feeling lazy today
a happy new year to all my readers!!
Tomorrow you will be hung over so we patiently await the pics.Originally Posted by DrAndy

OK I will do it NOW
The pool surround has now been blocked in, ready for rendering. Hopefully, next week we can fill the pool to check for leaks before tiling
The wooden house structure is going up fast
The roof rafters are metal as we want to use the same tiles, which are fairly heavy
The pipes are being blocked in and tiling is continuing in the bathrooms
quite a nice job, so far
The floors look a little uneven
More blockwork for the shower screen and pipework
The workers all went home early with some whisky; I don't suppose they will be back for a few days
good to see the work start up again!
yes, Giggs, you are a lucky fellow, keep up the good work
as for the building, they are working on the roof structure, so all wood working has stopped due to the falling sparks
from the roof terrace
The tilers have reappeared after the holidays and are thinking about what to do next
so, another delivery of cement
the roof is now finished and tiling will start today, shouldn't take long
a view of the second floor of the wooden house
and the ground floor. This will be open to the courtyard, forming an integral part of it
whilst the house is squeezed into the plot, the courtyard will be a good size for parties due to the two parts of the house that will be open and adjacent to it. These will also function as living space during any rain
Another topic; the solar heating engineers came yesterday and said the panel and tank could not fit on the main roof as the secondary top roof took up too much space. They suggested fitting it on the wooden house roof, angled towards the south. This seemed to be an ugly solution.
The builder then said that the type of tiles we are using were not strong enough to support the tank etc, so that should not be considered anyway
He suggested hanging the solar unit off the back south facing wall; this would be out of sight but in a relatively easily accessible position for maintenance
he is going to build the support for me as the metal men are still onsite
sounds a good solution; pics later...
I'm fascinated by this whole pool idea/concept - can't wait to see that completed.
We're going to do some minor construction soon, building a deck/garden area off our house. Hopefully it will help with the future sale.
The pool is slowly being constructed; I will add pics when it has reached a more advanced stage
so, there has been some good work going on
the roof is ready to be tiled
the wooden floor is in progress
and the tiling is well underway
tile delivery for the remainder
then they can enjoy the view
Today, I hope the tiling crew reappear! they have been missing for a while, probably on another job
The pool should be filled later, for a hydraulic test (read "leaks")
and we are looking for the best value Solar water heater
we did find one from EGAT but after many cost additions it seems to have become very expensive
I've probably missed it somewhere in this thread, but who is the construction Co. you're using DrA?
Presumably you could/can/would recommend them?
They are becoming more available. I see 2 or 3 choices in Global House, Roiet. Probably more choices in CM so you should find something fits your value proposition.Originally Posted by DrAndy
No, not mentioned, Ant, and yes, I would recommend them
Both them and the architect, who works closely with them are good. neither speak good English though, so you will need a translator or speak good technical Thai...sort of
The architect will draw up your plans from your rough concept; I am not sure if he has the design experience without that
The builder will build to your specs and is reasonably priced
both are nice guys
another member has already decided to use him for his project
anyone want to use them, please PM me
what are those prices? Global House here has been rebuilt but does not have the solar panels back yet!Originally Posted by Norton
^Ok thanks for that, I'll bare it in mind... Could be in need of such services in the near future.
Here is the pool progress
this is what it was like, just blocked in to the pool top surface
access doors are built in for pump maintenance and keeping any equipment
a small wall is being built all around the pool to 40cm
quite fast
and the front, with a gap for access
the access doors are in and the wall finished
a 60cm high stainless steel railing will be put on top of the small wall
and the pool from the inside
some shady bits and some areas for getting hot
no steps inside yet so I will have to design some for sitting and access
