You gave your contractor some work, he completed that work and went onto new work, you only have yourself to blame, I personally wouldn't even bother going back for the secondary work, your just giving out bits and pieces work, not a proper job.

I said "I understand the layoff for this job was a long time" . I've contracted the same guy to finish the whole house. Yes it is bits and pieces, but that's the only way I could afford it. Not blaming him or his crew, just frustrated at the lack of progress.

He says it's full speed ahead once he's sure he won't be in the roofer's way. Incidentially, the labor for the walls, slab, outer sidewalk, ceiling, and water was contracted for 160,000 baht. This will leave paint and tiles 'til later. Don't know exactly what this will cost but the labor bill to date is roughly 1,500 baht per square meter. Don't know if that's any deal, but it's what the best local contractor asked for. Mrs. DA has mentioned a labor "standard" for pricing. Not sure if she would really know, but she says that's what we paid.

Killed a bottle of Jonny Walker green with the guys to celebrate the roofer's arrival!

The roofers were unstoppable today. Everyone else was hungover and lounging in the shade. Tomorrow they'll start throwing the tiles up. Looking forward to it. Have been informed by Homemart that the ridge vent tiles won't come for another two weeks. No way I finish paying them until the roof is done.

Clarification : won't pay Homemart the balance on materials. Will pay those blessed roofers promptly. Surprised, too, to see them wearing real sneakers on that roof. Figured they wouldn't miss a chance to endanger themselves by flip- flopping.

Here's the first section of roof, almost done. Color looks pretty good. Definetely some good shade.

Today we tried to get our electrical and water plans up to speed, and tomorrow prep work on the window and door frames will start. Really looking forward to seeing doors and windows- a little more homey...........

yes, I do not like tiles, but that colour is very nice.

See ape, you not such a dickhead after all. Real dickheads would have picked blue, or red or lavender

Pics tomorrow and it'll be a pleasure taking them. Spent the day sanding and priming the window frames. I've contracted myself to do all the painting as it's the only thing I'm any good at construction-wise.

Assholes and elbows at the site today. The roof is almost done and more q-con has been put up. Even with my pretty brown tiles, DID manage to act like a world class dickhead a few times today.

That will save you 500b a day.

The painter that did our place was paid 500b a day and he was very good....but took him 4 months lol.

We nicked name him Paul Hogan...if anybody does not know, Paul Hogan used to be a painter on the sydney harour bridge before fame and fortune caught up with him. When they finish painting the sydney bridge, it is time to start again at the other end.

My painter would finish an area, go off to paint another area, then workers would pull shit apart, cut holes here and there, leave greasy dirty hand prints everywhere and he would come back and start again. Reckon the house got painted around 7 times.

Yeah, I knew I'm not saving any money painting myself (I'm not that fast). Spent enough time painting other peoples shit (boats, ships) so painting my own shit is no big deal. I will leave all the painting until the very, very end to avoid you painter's hardships. I brought over an airless (piston pump) paint sprayer for just this occasion, and will probably have two guys help.

You're idea of leaving the painting till last when theyve all fckd off is good. Something you and the misses can do in piece and quiet. Slowly painting each othert,,,,,,,,............

RIIIIIIIIIIGHT!! Now I know why my painting is so slow- I've been using that little 1" overtime brush.

Thanks, Janda sounds like a winner. We've been talking about christening the new place...

Due to the swampy condition of my road, couldn't make it any closer for a pic.

Both exterior and interior walls continue to go up. Roof is 95% complete. Roofers took a day off. Fine with me. They won't be able to finish anyway- the Deck Ape ordered more ridge vent tiles and they won't be here for another ??? days. Told the guy at homemart how not exited I was at them finishing and then re-doing with said vent tiles, so they'll cover the top with rubber till the new ones are here.

Here's how I've occupied myself the last two days. Window and door frames. Two coats of primer and two coats of color around the edges before they're installed. I'm allowing myself the self delusion that if I prep'em good enough and they are installed right they'll work flawlessly for decades. Hung up with Isaan red superstring ( not good, kept stretching).

My tiles were up for 2 weeks before I got the vent tiles, no problem in changing them out.

I know...... but still, rather have them do it just the one time.

Spring green Jotun paint 500 bht/ gallon. Guy said he only had two available, so I tried matching up to one of the custom colors so I could order as I see fit. GULP custom paint 1200 bht/ gal. Who buys that stuff? Not me.

The rough openings await the overly prepped frames.

Another look at the front roof section. The little black things around the foil arfe rubber spacers. They're supposed to create 8cm channels for the hot air to flow from uner the eaves out the ridge vents. Trying to get other pic but internet is slow.

This'll be under the eave/ soffit.

The roof space, lined with foil. That gable will be fitted with a custom vent made from 4 " shera. Kinda puts you in the mood to party, don't it? Happy weekend everyone!!!

Another ho-hum day. The roofers are working around the edges and ridge. The going is slow. Not much progress anywhere else. Tomorrow is day off for the house crew. Dropped 150K at the supply store (wall fixins) + 20K at Homepro for toilets, sinks, valves, followed by a 80 baht lunch. Damn, living here could be real cheap if I wasn't married with these kids and building a house. TIT
