Probably be more helpful to lift those 1,000 boats out of the water and hope the displacement of water stops Bangkok flooding, or make everybody in Bangkok drink 1 liter of the river.Originally Posted by FailSafe

But will you ever get back!!!Originally Posted by aging one
Yep, I think I will as the CP river empties 350 kilometers north of where I am going.
Isn't there some mythical beast they can pray to that will drink all the water from the river? If there isn't couldn't we invent one and sell it to them?
Yes it has, many times. I'm sure there are photos on TD from 4 or 5 years ago showing flooding that 'Ayutthaya has never seen'.Originally Posted by Boon Mee

First floods (proper ones, not just enlarged puddles) have arrived in Bangkok this past week or so.
The weather people are saying it's going to get a lot worse and judging from the rain this afternoon they may be right for once as apart from the natural monsoon rains, we're in for the arse end of some of the tropical storms hitting the Pips, Viet Nam, South China etc.
The sandbags are down at the house and the missus went to air out the condo today. We're fairly lucky that by a quirk of fate our house is up on a slight rise but last year a lot of the estate got it bad.
I believe you are talking about the great beer flood of london in 1814, the monsters we just the local vagrants coming a long to help with the clearing up the beer
The boats in fact create a resistance to the current by driving upstream in a row, forming a barrage. The motors driving water downstream counter balance the effect at that point, resulting in a negative effect.
The boats would move upstream if not tied to the bridge. Therefore the force pushing the water down stream is greater than the drag of the water on the boat hulls.
There will be a minimal, localised, velocity increase of the water flowing down stream.
Next weeks lecture is on the Bernoulli effect which states that for an inviscid flow, an increase in the speed of the fluid occurs simultaneously with a decrease in pressure or a decrease in the fluid's potential energy.
For those of you who want to be smart arsed in class next week here is a link

A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.
What a load of fucking cobblers...History repeating itself.
This is how the great Khmer civilization was destroyed.
All their klongs got filled up with silt etc and their hydrological system collapsed through excessive deforestation as they became more affluent, and sought more arable land to irrigate, for valuable crops. They over expanded.
So they came to an end.
Yesterday at Bang Na the streets were terrible during the heavy rain.
I can't wait for the boats to pull the bridge over.....
shit, I arrive 27th and my hotels is near the river at Saphan Taksin....any threats here d'ya think?
It will all be over by then.
Well, I was just going by what this old woman being interviewed by Saraudit on Channel 3 was saying. She has lived in Ayutthya all her life and stated she had never seen flooding like this.
She might have been exaggerating for all I know but it looks a lot worse this year than what I recall from the past.

^We'll all be drowned rats...and you can come join us...
sunny sky this morning, maybe some hope
It's coming your way though. Rangsit, Bangyai & Ban Bua Tong are flooding as we speak...
Any pics? How deep is it?
Hey guys, i've been on this site for a while and I never felt the need to create a name until this flood bs. In 16 days ill be in Bangkok on the 27th as well as dj. What are the chances the airport gets flooded or the major city center? I dont know the layout of the city as this will be my first visit to Thailand. If it does happen to flood how responsive is Bangkok disaster relief?

Fly when you need to and swim when you need to.
You are far better equipped than us.
Panic not, few floods in Bangkok do not a drowned city make.
