Yeah it's been raining here about that long now, the roads outside the moo baan are about 6 inches deep also.
Isn't that a repeat from last year?Originally Posted by BobR

Apart from strengthening flood prevention walls and installing water pumps, City Hall is also asking for spiritual help in efforts to keep the deluge away from the capital.
In a leaked internal memo sent to heads of the departments, City Hall's permanent secretary office yesterday invited senior officials to attend the lai nam (water dispelling) ritual at the City Pillar at 2pm today.
"The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is organising the function to pay tribute to the Water Goddess and to ask for her blessing for the speedy end to floods in Bangkok," the memo said.
Today's ceremony consists of two parts - the Brahman ritual at 2.39pm, followed by the Buddhist rite at 3.09pm.
The BMA's deputy permanent secretary Piengjai Visrutaratna said the ceremony is aimed at boosting the morale of Thais and especially Bangkokians who are bracing for a disaster.
Officials would also pay homage to a standing Buddha statue in the posture called "Stopping the Ocean" to wish for Bangkok to stay safe, Ms Piengjai said.
Authorities in charge of flood response estimated the northern flow will arrive in Bangkok and cause flooding in some parts of the city on Oct 17 or 18.
Ms Piengjai said BMA executives recently discussed flood preparedness and decided to organise the ritual to boost morale among officials and the public.
About 50 officials were initially invited to attend the ceremony, which will be presided over by Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra.
However, the governor decided to scale down the event after the memo about the ceremony was leaked and drew criticisms from social network users.
A source said MR Sukhumbhand would use his own money to sponsor the ceremony, which would be a private function joined by only a few BMA executives.
the story of king canute comes to mind.
Hey AO, any word on the weather conditions on Koh Chang or the roads headed that way? I was planning on going down this week but having trouble finding out anything.
water rising tonight people - raise all electric cables and move yer erb to higher ground
No, it's not a joke.
Stupidity has reached a new low level....
.....But may get lower tomorrow as I've got a few new suggestions for them to try.
a. Get 10,000 pickups with water tanks in the back, like at Songkran. Get volunteers to fill them with floodwater then drive it back upcountry and dump in the resevoirs.
b. Bottle the water and export as 'Special Discount Thai Beer' (just use old Chang or Leo bottles.
c. Uhhmmmm.... that's it really. Pretty much fucked at this point.
You, sir, are a God among men....

They are towing the bridge upstream to where the existing bridge has collapsed?
History repeating itself.
This is how the great Khmer civilization was destroyed.
All their klongs got filled up with silt etc and their hydrological system collapsed through excessive deforestation as they became more affluent, and sought more arable land to irrigate, for valuable crops. They over expanded.
So they came to an end.

raining non-stop since last night, not looking good for Bangkok
Yingluck was just saying on television that they are opening dams upstream now and areas along the Chao Prayha thru Bangkok will be flooded today...
I have just decided to stay in Pattaya today as I have had a gut full of these floods.
Thundering outside as well at the moment and I expect another downpour here any minute.
I am pissed off about all this shit. I dont really know, I call the resort owner and he says its fine with some evening or afternoon thunder showers. Its the freaked out wife that is driving me nuts. We are on the highest ground in BKK, have never had a flood, but the soap opera news is making her crazy. Argh!!!Originally Posted by Don Ho
I am going one way or the other. The frigging mouth of the river is way above Koh Chang is all I have to say. I am going to call the resort owner and will post his reply soon.

Nah its open and clear, its below the flood zone. Just talked to the resort owner and he says all is well. Nice weather with an evening or nighttime thundershower. All the boats are leaving each day for fishing, scuba, and snorkeling. I am going. 6:30am Saturday.Originally Posted by Butterfly
Bangkok, Sunday afternoon
Went up to do some shopping in Silom and see the flood relief concerts around Paragon and MBK .....dry as a bone.
Could see no evidence of flooding looking out from the overhead express way from the airport to Silom
Headed back around 7.30 and it bucketed down from the Ramkamheng rd (sp?) to the end of the Chonburi Express way.
Bloody dangerous in the fast lane approaching the LatKrabang toll gate - quite a lot of surface water. Interesting that the speed limit is now reduced to 90kpm from this toll gate almost up to the 1/2 way rest stop.
Seems the road repairs to smooth out the Klong bridge ramps at high speed have not worked as well as expected - 90kph is sensible.
Ladprao area Bangkok:
Everyone in my office is moving their cars to either The Mall Bangkapi or Big C Ladprao. Mall management has made spaces available for temporary parking as a precaution to avoid major damage to autos. Tonight we are raising all of our first floor appliances and furniture up on cement blocks.
Just received a call from a fellow member saying Bangkok Noi has been put on alert with the possibility of homes being flooded at 100%.
Stay dry everyone and good luck.
