I emailed them asking if they had plans for running smaller and therefore cheaper scenic flights over the city of Bangkok.

I got a very prompt reply saying:

    Dear Mr. Memock,

Thank you for your kind blessings!

Currently, we don't have plans for such small aircraft. However, we are able to operate sight seeing trip in Bangkok City within 30 minutes at the price of 1,250 USD, which is 250 USD per person. There are five VIP seats in the cabin.

Should you wish to have more information on our EC-135 and our services. Kindly log on to Helicopter Charter in Thailand - Bangkok, Advance Aviation, Helicopter Service for your kind perusal.

Please do not hesitate in letting me know should you have further queries.

    Kind Regards,

    Nopppaporn Nasylvanta

I get a helicopter to work.... I usually fall asleep with the noise and the heat....

A day before I was due to join the boat here a helicopter went down at sea carrying rig workers... It was a controlled landing as it hit some bad weather but 5 people still died...

I'd rather avoid the things... Especially as they try to land on a helideck on a boat that is pitching and rolling too much.... Thankfully, since that downing, all helicopters have been banned from landing on the boat I am on... Crew changes are by port call only... much better...

I certainly wouldn't pay good money to go in one but i could see the attraction over certain sites or cities....

I can see your point of view Rawlings. Although I haven't been on as many helicopters as you would have I have done a few as well but I still reckon it would be a great trip with a few friends over Bangkok.

^Hot air ballooning, that's what Thailand needs - IMHO. Especially places like Ayuthya.

I emailed her back to ask where they would depart from for a 1/2 hour scenic.

    Her reply:

    Dear MeMock,

Our operation center is at Rom Klao which is 10 minutes by car from Suvarnnabhumi Airport. However, we are able to pick you up at the nearest location to your place. Currently, there are a few licensed helipad in town. Kindly let me know where you are should you wish to be picked up from your venue.
There will be slight charge for the ferry flight to pick you up though.

However, should you wish to depart from our operation center in Rom Klao, we shall fax you map of our place. The traffic is usually good around here as it's a bit further away from the city.

I am delighted to do the 30 minutes sight seeing tailored to your request. If you would like to talk to my pilot first, i can arrange for you to communicate with him too. Kindly let me know where exactly you have in mind, otherwise, we shall plan the plausible routes with scenic aerial flight for you.

May I know when will this be? If you trip is within this month of March, i am delighted to offer you 10% discount for your trip. Kindly advise.

    Warm Regards,

Sunbelt Asia are advertising this business for sale.

Featuring items related to the Aviation Industry, this Bangkok shop stocks a vast range of items including aircraft models, aviation books, bags, caps, DVD's, headsets, pilot supplies, shirts, flight jackets, charts, navigation aids, global positioning equipment and VHF radios. The shop was established in a well known Bangkok shopping mall around 18 months ago and is currently averaging 280,000 baht per month in sales; full documentation of financial results to date will be supplied for interested parties to examine. The main overheads are monthly rent of 78,000 baht and monthly salaries of 30,000 baht for two employees. Although he is very satisfied with the early results of trade, the owner must regretfully listen to offers as he will shortly be relocating overseas. (BKK13286)
Total Investment to Own: US$170,000 (approximately 5,500,000 baht).

I can understand people buying model airplanes etc in Bangkok but headsets and flight maps?

There has been to hospitals start medical services here in the last 12 months, one is probably the pic above.

One advertises....I will see if I can find the advert....that it is a medivac machine, yet it is available for private charter. Wonder how they sort that problem out for an emergancy medivac if its out bush on charter somewhere.

Anyway, several have tried and failed miserably with heli ventures here, farang I mean, maybe thais also as you dont see them around. One was in Phuket and the other I forget now.

I do not know for sure, but i was told farang heli pilots are no allowed to fly here, I was also told the restrictions for private/small commercial planes/helis are so bad over bangkok it is not viable.

Simply comparing the prices asked here for hourly rates to Oz is ridiculous, you can understand some increase for a luxury rare item, but really when you comapre to what used to be a charge out rate for a jetranger of $900 per hour to here !!!

I had a plan put in writing to go to the big man with a proposal for medivac heli services. To much work though in reality in a foreign land.

Well, if you let me know where they park it one night, we can have some fun, especially after a few ales in cowboy.

That reminds me of a story.....a aussie I know who was learning to fly just before I did, went off around the world on a job seeking adventure, most new helicopter pilots do the same thing...I went from Perth to broome, but as mentioned elsewhere...did not make it.

Anyway, this guy went to Monaco, lots of helicopters there with possible prospects but nothing turned up.

While on the turps one night in Monaco, he met a girl, a cute girl with social means. He wanted to impress her, she wanted to be impressed.

So together with a bottle of plonk they wandered around the yacht area and he found a hughes 500 sitting idle on the back of a boat, they went and sat in it and she dared him to start it up, he did and as they had made all the noise now at 3am in the morning, he took off.

After several laps of the area, he could not remember which yacht his departure was from, so he just landed it anywhere. The owner had him arrested and he was carted off to the lockup.

Next day the owner came by and gave him a grilling, told him his fulltime pilot had resigned with family emergancy and returned home.....would he like a job ?

My friend jumped at the opportunity and he spent years travelling around as this guys private pilot.

Heli company advertised in todays bkk post ...advance aviation....0837880007.

Charter work around Bkk city with transfers from airport or to any of bkk city heliports.

Pilots claimed to have 5000/8000hrs experience and only fly pilots 2 up.

Which is a bit strange for a small helicopter only flying daylight hours for general charter. Maybe they not so good at emergancies.

I never was, always told my passengers that I was not good at emergancies, this seemed to give them a laugh and make them relaxed.

It also made me feel good for telling the truth.
