Want to move to Bangkok - Advice & Recommendations Please

Still looking around on DDproperty and craigslist and other sites. My internet connection sucks currently so its inefficient.

Ive seen some decent homes in the 35k range but its hard to tell the exact location sometimes because these agents lie about its true location, forcing people to call and get the run around and up-sell, like they do.

Probably gonna have to wait to get home to a good connection to look into this further.

I don't want to move up to 50k a month in all honesty. That makes Thailand a stupid decision because I could have a nice first world location in my home state. Why pay more to live in a third world country? Makes no financial sense.

Ideally, if Im going to stay in Thailand, it need to be 'cheaper' than going home, otherwise I might as well go home, or seriously look at another country.

There are some really nice condos in the 35k price range. I might look into this further as well, as it would solve all my problems with location and amenities. Its just condo + dog = sucks.

Never lived in Bangkok. I did know there were neighborhoods/districts though. Ever ridden the skytrain or Metro? They call out like half of them over the speaker

Bangkok is fuckin massive though. It be like going to NYC and taking public transport to blindly look for a place to rent. I need a plan of attack & I'm trying to get schooled up on locations & price ranges & how the contracts work so I'm not led around by the nose by some 'agent' blabbering away about shit trying to give me the up-sell.

This seems like it'll be more time consuming than I originally thought.

I get the allure, I moved to Thailand myself, and I want to move to Bangkok. I just don't really want to spend 1st world prices to live in a 'developing country' is all. I have the choice to live anywhere as my work is foreign, so I'm not tied down to one place for employment purposes.

...probably not necessary (in my case anyway): I have what I might call a first-world lifestyle on a perfectly ordinary (imo) income...that is, after all, one of the attractions of moving to Thailand and why so many falang choose to live/retire here...tapping into the accumulated experience of the posters here is a good idea...we might even end up as neighbors...
