Arrived in BKK yesterday and everything good, but today see that the bars (nana area) not selling beer becos of holiday or similar. When I had this prob in Pattaya the bars got round the ban by serving beer in coffee mugs and hiding the bottles. Is there any bars in BKK doing the same today? Or will they be able to sell booze this evening. cheers if u know.

Alcohol free all day long in Thailand today , 7/11s wont sell alcohol, but the local shops probably will . Some bars may open , but they will just be serving straight cokes and coffee

fluke , can confirm hte bars i see on Skhumvit now serving coke only, but rathchaburi, you're right about the hotel as can get beer there. looks like eating/drinking in the hotel coffe shop tonite. Better than nothing...but not good..

Best let the girls have today off as it is a pretty important religious event for most of them and a day off the booze should not be a worry anyone.

You can find some bars open which are connected to hotels but keep away from the up-stair dingy little bars that will sell you a beer for a huge price.

A mate of mine went there on a dry alcohol day and got mickey fined and almost died. That was about 15 years ago.

Ive only been to that Patpong once , it was in a bar with a boxing ring and they had the Muay Thai fighters in there. I think most of it's staged but it did look pretty brutal at times.
After every fight the 2 fighters come around the audience with a flimsy looking bucket, probably made in Pattaya.
