emergency service vehicles in Bangkok - are they for real?

Well last night I finally saw it - an emergency vehicle (fire engine) trying to cross the roundabout at Victory Monument . Always wondered what would happen in the scenario of a bit of traffic.

Did the cars move out of the way - did they fuck.

The fire engine just stopped in the traffic , lights flashing , siren on full blast and no one paid any notice to it .
Now there was enough space for it to get by if the cars pulled over but no they just all waited in line for the lights to go green - there actually wasn't any traffic on the roundabout itself so can't see why people didn't just get out of the fucking way or something - perhaps they like the idea of someone's house burning down or maybe it just didn't occur to them?

There were a few cops around just kind of staring and laughing really - all seemed a bit odd to me.

Is this always the case - I mean do people move out of the way for ambulances etc...?

In fact what is the point of a siren , lights etc.... why not just turn the noise off and let us just watch in quiet?

If you're in an accident and you need emergecy treatment in a hospital via an ambulance in Bangers, forget it. You're dead.

I feelthat even if they adopted western values as to pulling over to let emergency vehicles pass with the amount of traffic they'd still be stuck somewhere.

Well virtually every day as part of my marathon trip to work and back.

I know a great place for deep fried 10B sausages - I indulge myself in 3 of these little beauties on the way home cause everywhere else is shut or not worth eating at.

I then avail myself of the 3B public lavatory before heading off on my merry way to the BTS. - such joy!

I usually stop in once a week for Yam Kai Dao and a couple of Leos.

Then avail myself to the 3b lavvies before leaping onto a green bus and home!

I luv dis thread. In me klass we have been studying da human body dis past term. Have you ever cut up a pig's heart and lung with the non-believers? Anyway, when I mentioned ambulance to my Thai Ss, they looked at me in shock. Their response? They never want to be in one, as dis is where people go who die...

Here in Pattaya they wont move over for ambulances, the only thing you can hope is that it is one of their family members that are being taken to hospital and that they die in the ambulance and the cnuts feel guilty for the rest of their lives, but they wont feel guilty alas...
