Bloody hell William, your job must pay a packet...that's expensive real estate...
say g'day to johnny as he walks past in the morning.
Be quick saying hello hopefully he wont be there in two weeks time.
you think getting a unit is hard wait till you get in the sydney traffic to travel to work. Thats a fun experience the grass on the side walks grow as you pass, very time consuming.
Nice area kirribilli, milsons point lived there for 4 years.
And you are right costs a packet to live there.
Meat is expensive T Bone steak up to $24 a kilo mince $12 kg, and beer $35-$40 for case of 24 stubies. At 4.9% alchol.
enjoy
William lived in London for a while. Aussie traffic is pathetic in comparison.Originally Posted by corvettelover
It's not really that bad, AU$35 is circa 1,000B so 1000/24 = 41B per bottle.Originally Posted by Fabian
Certainly more expensive than the Changs etc of this World but probably better too.
^you don't seem to get the same thumping hangover I got whenever I drank Singha, that's for sure
^Yeah, that'll be on of the side effects of it being actual beer* and not water from the klong with a bit of fizz added to it.
Singha... bleeeeh!
*And most likely one of those owned by Lion Nathan, the New Zealand brewer, at that
Just found this thread and have to agree that Sydney (at least the city) is an expensive place to live (ranked 21st in the 2007 Mercer cost-of-living survey). However William, I think you will find it is worth it, as Sydneysiders love to play hard. Drop me a line if you need any suggestions. I'm just around the corner on Kent St.
As for beers, try the James Boags' Premium Lager. Will pay on average $50 for a slab. Also, you can get a nice James Squires 'Amber Ale' down on Kings St Wharf where it is brewed onsite. You will find it hard to drink the Thai beers again.
Can of Chang is 20 baht, bottle is 33 baht (or 3 bottles for 100baht), and it's in the ;pcal shop ice cold and less than a minutes walk away.
You don't get that in Sydney, I was living in KK in a small hotel, and the walk to the supermarket took longer.
I refuse to work there now, I found that $80/hr just doesn't cut it if you want to save money, and not many will pay that anyway.
I earn 1/2 that here and bank 90% of it. But I do own a house here, makes a difference, don't think I'll ever be able to own one back in Aussie.
Divorce is a wonderful leveler.
Back online! View from my place.

Ant
So far, and it is very early days, I'm rather liking this place.
I just cant understand why william was not able to find a cheap place with a view of some poxy little bridge.
DD,
They tell me you get great views on New Year's Eve. Unfortunately for me, I get back in from Cape Town at 3p.m. NYE, so the only view I want is of my pillow. But I understand, from what I have been told, that I can forget that!!
I think those Aussies are robbing you william, I mean fok me it's only a poxy bridge, why should you have to pay extra just to see some poxy little bridge? I am sure cmn knows of loads of bridges in wales that you can get a place real cheap
^in Wales? Right...
Good to hear fella. I'll read from that the job's going well also. Have to admit to a tinge of envy, you being in the 'real world' now and allOriginally Posted by William
^and me you mate - when are the little ones arriving?
^Not long now, 3rd of Dec!
Looking back on my life I can't help but come to the sad conclusion that I wasted my freedom by not going out on the lash often enough when I had the chance
