Great thread William, lots of memories. Have you been on the Ferry to Taronga Park Zoo yet, one of my favourite spots on the harbour.

    Bondi to Bronte shoreline walk

Well it's been [realitively] shitty weather here in Sydney over the past few weeks. This weekend, however, has been lovely. Cold, but lots of sunshine.

Waking up early, I decided to take advantage of the sunshine weather and do the shoreline walk from Bondi to Bronte. It's not an overly long walk, but one I hjad heard good things about. Having been to Bondi a few months ago, I was not over-taken with the place, so I decided to walk from Bondi to Bronte, a place I had not been to before. However, you can do the walk the other way round (i.e., Bronte to Bondi).

Anyhow, here's the world famous Bondi beach. Personally I don't think it's that much and prefer Manly.

However, if you are a sufer, I guess I could see why you would want to be here. The waves are big.

This is looking north, towards [I think] Mermaid Rocks (on what I understand to be the Ben Buckler point)

You can also see this thing. On the map it is signed as a "cross", but it certainly doesn't look like any cross I've ever seen.

but I digress, as that is not the direction I want to be aiming for.

The first place you come across is the famous Bondi Baths and Iceberg restaraunt/club

And the path heading towards Mackenzies Point - to which I am heading

The view back towards Bondi from just before Mackenzies Point

Mackenzies Point doesn't look too much, but the wind up there meant I couldn't take any photos. I was doing myu best just to keep standing up!!

Once you are past the winds of Mackenzie Point you look over Tamarama Bay towards Bronte beach

At Tamarama Bay you get to see Australian's other favourite pass-time, Beach Volleyball!!

but the houses here certainly seem to have more character than those in Bondi

and this is looking back over the Bay as I head towards Bronte Beach

Just before I reached Bronte Beach I came across this guy. He was actually quite good. Almost made me want to go off and buy myself a fishing rod - almost.

Once you reach Bronte Beach you come across those crazy surf blokes again. This guy actually looked like he knew what he was doing. Anyhow, I assume he did, given he reached the beach - which cannot be a bad thing, can it?

Bronte Beach is much the same as most places around here, a bay with a load of houses around it. In this case, much nicer than Bondi, but I'm not sure they were any better than Tamarama and Tamarama was much the quieter place, so would be my choice to live if I wanted to move to this part of town, which I don't *too many Pom accents around for a start!!*

One thing I did like about Bronte is the usual reverence to public signs. This one says "beach closed, dangerous conditions" Obviously someone forgot to tell that to the surfers!!

Not that this guy really gives a shit - soaking up the winter sun!

They tell me this is called "Lover's Cove", the place all young couples in love go to sit and look at the romantic view. Almost enough to make me sick, so I decided to make my way back home.

On the way back, I saw the Bronte Beach Baths. They seem to like these inlet swimming baths here

BTW- if you want to do the walk, my friends tell me the best time is between 4p.m. and 6p.m. Nicely they failed to mention this until after I had done the walk.

Great thread William. You'll have to come up here and do one on Brisbane.

Actually, I could do one on Brissie but we'll have to wait until it warms up a bit. Winter has begun to set in. Eight fucking degrees here tonight.

In Australia, rock fishing is the most dangerous sport of all.
One of my cousins was washed off rocks by a freak wave. The surf was too rough for him to clamber back up onto the rocks. He attempted to swim out and around the headland to then come back onto the beach at the other side.

He was young, strong and a good swimmer. Sadly, he didn't make it and they found his body 3 days later.

    Estuary fishing for me..

These pictures look great. I went to Sydney a couple weeks ago, it's probably the opposite side with yours, you must be living in North of Sydney? I don't know that side is beautiful like this, I'll make a visit soon.

My part of town, William, though we're on the harbour side not the ocean side.

The picture is of the Bondi Sewage Treatment Works, certainly not a cross.

It sits right next to, an in, a nice little par 27 course . . . this course and the Woollahra as well as the Royal Sydney in Rose Bay is where I learned to play golf.

(Had a quick round at the Royal when I was in Sydney in January . . . memories!!!)

For me still the best part of Sydney . . . bar none.
