This bloke is mustard but relatively unknown

    Also unknown

    and another

    An oldie

    As good as the original

Yeah I think classical guitarists have got the edge when it comes to fingerwork,
I also love flamenco, but that's a lot of strumming.

My favorite fingerpicker has to be John Lee Hooker, fingerpicking gives so much more character to guitar playing in depth and tone, Hookers riffs aren't necessarily complicated, but the nuances that he gives to them are masterful.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Blues. I like da blues. Not sure if Buddy Guy fits the "fingerpickin" category but he sure is a great guitarist.

He brings a tear to my eye when I listen to him perform not to mention his physical impediment.

A genius and freak all rolled into one.

I've had the luck to see this guy live twice. An eight string guitar with angled frets. If you close your eyes and listen, you would swear you're listening to a bass player and a guitar player.

Very talented playing although I don't think I could listen to it all day ....way out there. The seven string guitar is interesting. I've got a few clips of a guy with an 8 string somewhere. Obviously, 12 string guitars don't really count because the strings are mostly played in pairs. Heres something odd though :

Who's to say who's the greatest? There are many guitar virtuoso's, and the guitar is a very versatile instrument. For all around virtuosity though, few can match the great player/ composer Paco de Lucia. Born into a famous flamenco family, he was already considered a prodigy in his teens.

A Spanish technique standard- every classical guitarist with street cred needs to master Asturias (written for the piano, strangely)-

If you lurv Jazz guitar (I do) you've just gotta listen to the collaborations of Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grapelli (violin) though.

    Natural evolution of the guitarist...

    1) Listen to people who you think are guitar greats..

    2) Purchase a guitar, practice the riffs and think you're gonna be the next big thing....

    3) Come across Django Reinhardt

    4) Sell guitar

That sums up my guitar career pretty neatly. Still play but no wind in my sails.

At least you skipped step 3.5) Try to remodel your hand to make it more like Django's, thinking that was his secret.
