Lisa Kekaula from The Bellrays. A proper garage band lots of noise, the lead has an excellent voice, a gospel blues singer doing rock and roll, nothing new in that, but good stuff.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

PJ Harvey.. probably a bit left field for most of you, but this is a belting performance.

Some wonderful singers here all ready. Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention and others, for me was one of the richest and purest of voices.

Not sure if this lady has been mentioned yet...Lisa Gerrard

Not exactly a rock/pop/blues/jazz voice but imho one of the greatest voices I have ever heard.

Used to like a bit of Throwing Muses and Kristen Hirsh meself.

    My favourite album: Red Heaven.

(Never thought she was too good live, nice relaxing albums to listen to though...)

I wouldn't say that PJ Harvey was the greatest by a long way, but she can rock a bit.

That's alright the more the merrier and better than all the Celine Dionne/Beyonce shyster shit. PJ is a bit hit and miss for me, don't really get into her wierd 'act' but when she rocks she's fantastic. A truly great lead has to perform live and she certainly can do that.

I also used to like Elizabeth Fraser's vocals from The Cocteau Twins, but I never saw them so I don't know about stage presence or whatever. Never could figure out what the hell she was singing, though.

Liz Fraser is quite a character, but suffered terribly from stagefright and as a result basically stood still with her hands clasped behind her back. Great voice and a great sound live but nothing to watch particularly.
