Get the right end of the stick then JJ, and lay off the sauce.
Bill Baileys great imo, But as I said, I believe the Edge is a one trick pony.
Reread my posts and get back to me.
Silly person.

I was having a drink in Smug Farang Bore's Bar the other night and heard this song for the first time in over 24 years.
I forgot about Johnny Winter.
This list is of course debatable but I love a guitar riff and cannot argue too much with this lot.
This thread started out about a young guitarist,….here’s another (when Joe was 12) that didn’t make the list.
That list is subjective
Preferable (to me) than listening to some bloke wanking about in the Blues scale.Originally Posted by astasinim

go listen to eric clapton and steve winwood playing "voodoo chile" its in 3 sections all over u-tube, and see if that doesnt change your mind about inspired blues riffing.
I've listened to more blues than you can shake a stick at, but I wish I'd only listened to one and be done with it.Originally Posted by taxexile

Jesus! 4 pages in and no mention of Jimi Hendrix??!!
Ask all of your "hero's" who they rate and he would be right up there. Big influence on them and if he made it through....Who knows?
Shame upon you plebs.
I think the case is that Hendrix is just such an obvious top choice that we needn't have given him a mention Mate, but since you have yes he is superclass.
Hendrix came about at the right time and in the right places and wouldn't rate in my books and when compared to other guitarists at the time.Originally Posted by Bung

In fact I could go to 10 bars in Pattaya tonight and hear Thai's do a better job with this song. Bung just listen to it and if you know anything about playing guitar Hendrix wasn't that good, he was good playing with feedback and distortion.
^^
LT I think you are possibly letting your personal taste come in the way of facts here, Hendrix introduced a whole new style, no one played like him, and the contemporary musicians where almost all in awe off him, many big bands like The Who did not want to play after him at concerts because they felt they would appear tame in comparison, and many of his interpretations of other musicians music far outsold the originals.
I fear you are quite alone with those views amongst rock guitar scholars and historians, but it is your views so that's fine.
