Young at harp

Young Thai harpist Phuttaraksa Kamnirdratana will be performing in her homeland for the first time tomorrow evening.

In the "Follow the Dream" harp concert, Phuttaraksa will take the audience back to the Renaissance period and work up to the 20th century.

The programme will feature Anthoine Francisque's Le Tresor d'Orphee, Bernard Andres's Tanka, Edmund Schuecker's Mazurka in E-flat Minor, Paul Hindemith's Sonata for Harp and Claude Debussy's Danses.



Phuttaraksa began her music education at the age of four, with the piano.

The young musician was accepted as a pre-college student at the College of Music, Mahidol University.

She began her harp lessons in late 2003.

Two years later, she became the first Thai student to achieve Grade 6 harp with distinction from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in Britain.

She studied under renowned harpists Deborah Fleisher and Marguerite Lynn Williams and recently earned a master's degree in harp performance from the University of Miami.

In addition to solo recitals, Phuttaraksa has also given orchestral performances.

From 2005 to 2007, she was a member of the Siam Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2006, she appeared in the Thai film Seasons Change: Phror arkad plian plang boi as a harpist and performed for the movie's soundtrack.

She has also performed with the Walenstein Symphony Orchestra, Broward Symphony Orchestra and Miami Symphony Orchestra.

'Follow the Dream' is tomorrow at 7pm at the Music Auditorium, College of Music, Mahidol University, Salaya, Nakhon Pathom.
