Londonistan - about the unchecked rise of the influence of Islam in UK society and how the UK has turned a blind eye to the terrorists group operating from here over the years and now operating within it.

    We reap what we sow.

Very scarey, some a bit OTT, but agree with the basic premise about PC and turning a blind eye being the problem.

It also kind of confirms my already held views about the crazy influence of the "chattering classes" within our society.

Another reason to get out of here!

Others must be reading it - its on its 9th reprint since its first publication 12 months ago.

Part of what the book discusses was evident in the papers this morning. A history is emerging of older asian men (moslim in many areas) grooming young white girls for sex. Two have just been convicted of such crimes. The article went on to explore other areas, whith parents claiming its being played down, because of the race issue.

The article uses "asian" rather than "muslim" throughout. An MP was qouted talking about "asian" men. The chairman of the Lancashire Council of Mosques (muslim) was asked to qoute on her comments, he said, "I think that is a shallow way of looking at it. This is a social evil. We have to put up enough barriers so that it becomes difficult for these men to operate"

    More denial.

The book is well worth reading if you want to be depressed.

From critique thread:...12-08-2007 01:04 AMBoon MeePerhaps she hasn't won that Pulitzer yet but her books are worthy of one!
Interesting. So you've gone from Coulter being 'a Pulitzer Prize winning author', to redding me because she's 'worthy of one'. Yeah I can see why you'd enjoy her work, she's in the habit of making up stuff and going on the defensive when called on it too.

Fooled By Randomness by Naseem Nicholas Taleb.

Very interesting and written in a cool way.

    It's a quick read. Great.

    High Speed Flow
    C.J. Chapman
    Cambridge Texts in Applied Mathematics

Excellent review of fluid flow phenomena. Begins with general fluid flow & the governing equations - mass conservation, momentum conservation & energy conservation. Describes both governing equations (Navier-Stokes & Euler) & jump phenomena.

The book then describes characteristic surfaces in fluid flows, with an eventual bias towards high-speed flows. Shock waves are then described in terms of a particular type of characteristic surface.

The rest of the book discusses high speed flow concepts & theory.

    -----
I found the book exceptionally useful in terms of the 'jump phenomena' & 'characteristic surfaces'. It has allowed me to better understand certain aspects of my research findings. The jump phenomena allow understanding of the discontinuous nature of fluid flows - an aspect not well accepted by many mathematicians, but something well grasped by physicists.

This book is very well priced at around $45 & is available from Amazon, amongst others.

Big Sur ! jack kerouac (third time round)
With each reading I find more to enjoy it's s short book but I find myself saisfied with twnty pages or so at a sitting
I find kerouac worth reading, not an easy read. Fuckin guy was a poet, but he wrote 'novels.' The writing is excellent the story takes a particular mind-set to enjoy. A man trying to live teh good life according to the "ideals" his 'beat" cronies had postulated but ultimately realiziing he preferred the heat and drama of alcoholism and dirty living.

There are so many of us hungering for the simple life, a country cabin, fresh clean water and quiet solitude; wehn we find it we think of the honky-tonks, loose women, booze, drugs and debauchery.

    They just don;t fuckin mix.

I missed meeting this dude by a few years we hung out with the same people we wanted the same things, only differently. reading this book is a walk down memory lane and glimpse into the same dichotomy of desires I felt and some as yet to fade.

not a book for everyone but if you enjoy well written, from the heart, prose it's worth muddling through.

I'm reading The Religion by Tim Willocks.

It's set in the late 1500's and is about the defence of Malta by the Knights Templar against the Turks. I've only read 200 or so pages but it flows well and as lots of sex, gore and magik in it, so all's good.

I'm reading the Bible. It tells the true story about how the Jews have a right to Israel. A place not even mentioned in the Koran.

Big Deal by Tony Holden. His year long attempt to make the jump from enthusiastic amateur to poker professional. I'm not a gambler myself but as a voyeur I find myself interested by the mechanisms and procedures of gambling. I shall read The Biggest Game in Town by Alvarez next.

had a very hard time finishing Paul Theroux's "Blinding Light" recently. It starts out great, as do, imo, many of his books.
Sadly, unlike many of his books, the second half was severely lacking.
