A serene portrait of a 36-week-pregnant woman having a quiet moment in her kitchen has won one of Australia's richest photographic prizes.
At a ceremony on Friday night at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, Melbourne-based documentary photographer Alana Holmberg was announced as the winner of the National Photographic Portrait Prize for her portrait of her sister, Greta.
Holmberg was one of 39 finalists chosen from a field of more than 3,000 entries.
It is the second year she has been selected as a finalist for the prize.
Holmberg documented her sister's pregnancy as part of a larger photobook project for her then-unborn nephew — the first of the family's "next generation".
