A Thai film that was presumed lost will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival next month after it was rediscovered and restored.

“Santi-Veena” will be among 21 films shown at the prestigious film festival as part of the Cannes Classics program. The film will hit Thai theaters later this year.
The film had long been thought lost until copies were found two years ago in foreign film archives in China, Russia and the United Kingdom. It was added to the National Film Heritage Registry in the same year, reported Khaosod English.
It was first released in theaters and broadcast on television in 1954. A commercial and critical success, it was remade in 1976.
“Santi-Veena” is about a blind woman called Veena who draws romantic interest from two young men. However, the movie is better known for its portrayal of Thai culture than its love-triangle story.
