We got some Kef Q55 bi wired gold banana plugs spiked on concrete slabs and lots of nice bass.

How much were they (if you don't mind me asking), and how would you rate them.

Just looked them up, get very good reviews too - bet they sound bloody brilliant with all those Cliff Richard CDs...

my livingroom 2:1 surround system. I have heard these blasting 18 floors below, when i popped to the shop one night i also bust my laptop because i rested it on that woofer while having a shave. 5000 baht they cost



I bought this at one of those stalls near Nana soi 7/1. a proper bargain at 400 baht. i whack a memory stick in it and take it in to the bathroom and blast out some Otis Redding. My main use for it is for my surface pro in the bedroom because the volumes too low on it. has a nice neon light on the bottom and a radio.i ve had it ove a year now


These can go underwater swimming and are great on the bike and in the gym with no wires hanging

That's a quality bit of gear; 30 years... Wharfedale have always had a good name. What would you replace or upgrade them with, or is that a no no?

Good all round speaker nice mid and high end sound perfect for Max Bygraves,and Gerts best of Issan cd.

Great stuff. Similar price to the EPOS - they had great soundstaging and control. If anything, the ES11s were a tad light in base if the source wasn't well driven.

Ten years and going strong, so that's 40 squids per year for great sound - gotta be worth it.

Spendor BC1's bought new in London when I was doing the usual pilgrimage to London thing back in the 70's. Unfortunately still at the ex's place, a situation which I am hoping to remedy next month.




and a pair of Stax Electrostatic Headphones, also bought new in the 70's for a small fortune, $169. I have seen them on ebay recently for $5000, I don't think anyone bought them. I'm not sure if mine are the same as in the picture, but they look mighty similiar. They are also at the ex's and I hope to rescue them too.

Hmmm, never been 100% convinced by those, but a relative spend 5,000+ squids on an expensive system (Meridian?) and when he watched films, the helicopters flying over, and the gun fire across the room, was impressive...

I'm under the impression that speakers like yours and my EPOS ES11s were so good, the technology so relatively simple but correct, that it's difficult to improve upon them.

As for those headphones, do you feel like a producer listening in a recording studio when you have them on???

Speakers - I have a pair of Nohr 9.0s, which are (were) cobbled together by an American guy in Thailand - I'm not sure if he's still in business or not, but they are still decent speakers. The cases are carved out of a chunk of marble.

The only problem with them is that they are quite long so take up a lot of floor space, well that and and the kids also like to sit on them and pretend they are riding horses so they've destroyed the front grills.



Headphones - being until very recently a frequently airborne sheep I have some Bose QC15s, which I think are great.



I was using Monster Lil' Jamz earphone things on my ancient iPod for quite a while, which i really liked and were a vast improvement on the stock Apple headphones, but after two or three years they began to fall apart and I now seem to have lost them. They were about US$ 90 in the States.



I did for a short while use the earphones that came with the iPhone 5 which were OK, but my wife clearly also rated them and so claimed them as hers. I didn't care for them enough to enter into a discussion about it.

I replaced the Lil' Jamz / iPhone ones with some Klipsch things, S3s I think, which are OK. Actually they're rubbish but they were cheap enough I suppose (about US$ 35?).



Apologies for the stock photos, nearly all my worldly goods are currently packed up and hopefully clearing Delhi customs (for export... ).

I say nearly all - the Bose headphones are here with me in Thailand, as is my iPod dock which is a Logitec thing and belts out a decent sound for what it is:

One of my friends had these, at over 1000 pounds for the top models (wooden) they were expensive. Very nice sound, although I didn't particularly rate them over my EPOS ES11s...

Replace.... would be like shooting your dog in the face. Listened to teenage kicks on vinyl aged 15 through them and still have all the disks from the 80s. Them speakers cannot be sold or retired.

They have never required any maintenance and get a pounding every day for several hours as they are the sound system for my movie/tv system.

Will be sad if the do give up the ghost one day.
