Fleetwood Mac Cancels Tour After Bassist John McVie Is Diagnosed with Cancer

Fleetwood Mac Cancels Tour After Bassist John McVie Is Diagnosed with Cancer

    October 28th, 2013

Having recently wrapped a very successful tour in Europe, iconic band Fleetwood Mac was preparing to kick off a new leg of the tour, which would have brought them on stages in Australia and New Zealand. Fans here will have to wait to see them live in concert.

A statement on the band’s official Facebook page announces that all the dates in these two countries have been canceled because bassist John McVie has been diagnosed with cancer.

“Fleetwood Mac who has just completed the European leg of their phenomenally successful worldwide tour has announced the cancellation of their upcoming 14 date tour of Australia and New Zealand,” the statement says.

“John McVie, one of the co founding and original members of Fleetwood Mac is now scheduled to be in treatment for cancer during that period of time,” it adds.

A message to the fans is also included, saying, “We are sorry to not be able to play these Australian and New Zealand dates. We hope our Australian and New Zealand fans as well as Fleetwood Mac fans everywhere will join us in wishing John and his family all the best.”

Fleetwood Mac had a total of 14 dates scheduled for Australia and New Zealand, which would have run through December 7. Afterwards, the band was supposed to perform in Las Vegas on December 30.

Nothing about the type of cancer 67-year-old McVie is battling has been announced on the official channels. Whatever it is, fans of the band are wishing him a speedy recovery and his family the strength needed to overcome this, as it becomes pretty obvious by perusing the replies to the Facebook announcement.

Fleetwood Mac released a 4-track EP in April this year called “Extended Play.” It marked the first release of new music since “Say You Will” in 2003.

Here is another great track from the 1977 Fleetwood Mac 'Rockarena' tour of Australia. This one is aimed at all the Lindsay Buckingham fans out there.

Unfortunately this concert was not lit for television and this track had a lot of 'blackouts' for stage visual effects - not good for the tv camera's. So I had to do a lot more editing (and did it at a higher quality).so hopefully you all will approve.

The next track I will work on will be either a Stevie or a Chrissie. Well it keeps me off the streets eh!

Here is the whole concerts track listing; maybe you choose?
    - Say You Love Me
    - Monday Morning
    - Dreams
    - Oh Well
    - Rhiannon
    - Oh Daddy
    - Never Going Back Again
    - Landslide
    - Over My Head
    - Gold Dust Woman
    - You Make Loving Fun
    - I'm So Afraid
    - Go Your Own Way

Nice vid, thanks! Seen McVie from the John Mayall days and thereon with the mighty FM - though only with the Peter Green version of FM, which really rocked for a time, then eventually went downhill. Pity, as Peter was an amazing guitarist.......

Anyways, hope McVie recovers very quickly and gets back with the band - the Big C ain't never a joke.

It's become a shame that most don't recognize the real Fleetwood Mac, circa '67-'75.

Mick Fleetwood and John McVie joined with Peter Green whom founded the band.

Bob Weston, Danny Kirwin, Bob Welch, et al.

Even pre-Christine McVie. Less Stevie & Lindsay.

Take a good listen to all their classic oeuvre.
    The "real" Fleetwood Mac.

bob welch, a fine musician in his own right, he died in sad circumstances.

On June 7, 2012, Welch committed suicide in his Nashville home at around 12:15 p.m. He was found by his wife, Wendy, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest; a 9-page suicide note and love letter had been written to his wife. According to her, Welch had had spinal surgery three months earlier. Doctors told him he would not get better. He was in serious pain and he did not want his wife to have to care for an invalid. Also, she believes that the pain medication pregabalin (Lyrica), which he had been on for six weeks, may have contributed to his death.[28][29][30]

I'm a big Peter Green fan and it's fortunate there is quite a bit of good early Mac on youtube. Some tv performances are very good. Also there's a good bio of PG. Had a hard time of it for a few years.

After she stopped doing coke, probably.

She used to have a roadie blow cocaine up her ass through a straw, allegedly. Tough job..
