So, T'was doing some DIY today, and I knew you'd be interested.
Had to sort out the height of the bridge pickup.

I don't overly like the pickups attaching to the back of a scratchplate, prefer the pickups to fit into the body like a Les Paul.
This little baby (on the left) was all that was needed to keep the pickup in place (not easily adjustable, but once the height is right how often do you adjust the pickup height???).

The Korean guy scuffed the ribbon, but I'm not too worried about that (I don't like the look of these poxy ribbons anyway, and makes the guitar look used)... :)

Having problems sorting out the buzz on the low E, so (after breaking a couple of strings and getting a bit stressed...) I've taken it back to the shop for the guys to sort that out. I'm not happy with the low E saddle, feels a bit wrong to me.
Slowly slowly catch e monkey... I'm gonna get some fret cleaner while I'm there, as I'd like to keep the black beauty in decent shape...

The bit that interests me is: The Wiggler is a warm sounding Vibrato/Tremolo pedal with an All Tube signal path using two premium 12AX7WB vacuum tubes.
I've seen one in Seoul for $60 and was wondering if I put it before my clean channel SS amp, then I could use nice overdrives/fuzz/distortion to break up the valves in the wiggler?
What do you think? Is this possible as a cheap tube preamp into my clean ss amp?

And Betty... don't break strings... turn them down before you turn them up, down then up, a bit at a time, check you're going in the right direction, then a little bit more, down then up to the note ;)
Did you buy an amp yet? I'm sure you can get a valve pre amp to do the job, but a similar though more predictable (plus practical and less expensive) way is to use a compressor pedal and the gain on your amp. use the neck pickup to thicken the sound, switch the gain on set it to a threshold where the overdrive is just perceptible, then boost the input level with the compressor and back off with the tone. with some fine adjustments between guitar, pedal and amp you should be able to break the sound up when you attack the strings.

OK, I'm playing around as you've said. The new pickups are noticeably different to each other, so I can set a mid to high volume, 3/4 tone and 1/3 gain on the amplug which results in clean sounds at the bridge, a bit more bite in mid position and some gain on the neck pickup (considerably more volume too). The sounds are about as good as I'm gonna get on this amplug/geetar. The pots on this epi don't do much, but I'll be changing them next month... :)Quote:

Does it include a coil tap? Would be great to split the neck pickup and get the white coil to pick up the harmonics, best for a blues tone playing off the neck and if you set that split coil out of phase with the bridge humbucker would give some very useful drive to rock out off the bridge ;)
4 push pulls, includes coil taps, in/out of phase and serial/parallel and any combination of... :)
Sounds nice with single on the neck out of phase with the bridge - I hope there's no actual playing technique involved though!

I've contacted 4 different shops in Seoul over the last 24 hours asking if they take a bank transfer and deliver. So, depending which one answers (maybe none will), I might be getting: a) a Korean made little valve preamp 15w amp (Aslin Dane or something equally as terrible, but cheap); b) a vox pathfinder; c) a Marshall 10w practise amp (this was pretty cheap, looked like a closing down sale); d) a vox cabinet to match my Fender Twin head (that's a little 'un...).
The only other shop that ever answered me, and spoke English (phone or email) was the one I bought the Epi from, but they don't have any amps I want at a price I want to pay.
This one is really tempting, but had to pay the missus' flights this month, so can't justify it, but if it's still there at this price next month:

Should be a drop in replacement that helps plenty (only $30 or so)... Not sure if I need to change the tailpiece or not, maybe I won't bother at first.
