Bush is a :wank: - why doesnt he give up sex and money also then!

Why George Bush gave up golf

    Article from: Reuters
    From correspondents in Washington
    May 14, 2008 01:23pm

US President George W. Bush says he stopped playing golf in 2003 out of respect for the families of Americans killed in the war in Iraq.
"I don't want some mum whose son may have recently died to see the Commander-in-Chief playing golf," Mr Bush said in an interview with Yahoo and Politico.com.
"I feel I owe it to the families to be as - to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal," he said.
Mr Bush said his last round of golf was in August 2003 when he was informed that a truck bomb had wrecked the UN headquarters in Baghdad, killing 22 people, including UN envoy Sergio Vieira de Mello.
"They pulled me off the golf course and I said 'it's just not worth it any more to do'," Mr Bush said.

In this article he also is quoted as saying if the US left Iraq too early, the US might be attacked again.

This man is lost. Or, wait a minute: maybe he's appealing to that certain demographic.

bush used to be a skilled politician who never would have said something as imperial as this in front of the press. he's so insulated from reality in his bubble, that he doesn't realize how politically tone deaf he's become.

Frankly this sort petty critical minutia falls way into the realm of "pathetic".

Can I ask what specific reasons you have, to think of his as a "hero in" your "eyes?"

Serious question. Thanks in advance. What policies?

Q Mr. President, you haven't been golfing in recent years. Is that related to Iraq?

THE PRESIDENT: Yes, it really is. I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the Commander-in-Chief playing golf. I feel I owe it to the families to be as -- to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.

Q Mr. President, was there a particular moment or incident that brought you to that decision, or how did you come to that?

THE PRESIDENT: No, I remember when de Mello, who was at the U.N., got killed in Baghdad as a result of these murderers taking this good man's life. And I was playing golf -- I think I was in central Texas -- and they pulled me off the golf course and I said, it's just not worth it anymore to do.
    even this is a lie.

de mello was killed in august 2003.

    but......

the Associated Press reported on Oct. 13, 2003, that he'd spent a "cool, breezy Columbus Day" playing "a round of golf with three long-time buddies.

"Bush played at Andrews Air Force Base with Clay Johnson, Office of Management and Budget deputy director, Richard Hauser, Department of Housing and Urban Development general counsel and another friend, Mike Wood."
On that outing, he was typically full of what passes for good humor at the White House. The AP reported: "'Fine looking crew you got there. Fine looking crew,' Bush joked to reporters. 'That's what we'd hope for presidential coverage. Only the best.'
"He hit a couple of practice balls before flaring his tee-off shot into the right rough."

Well, the US won the war without much resistance, so this much is true.

It's the aftermath which hasn't quite worked out as hoped for...

What is the source of this story?
Did the WH put out a statement explaining why W doesn't golf? Was this issue generated by the White House?
    Highly doubtful.

Or was it a response to a reporters question about why he doesn't golf anymore?
    More than likely.
So what is he supposed to say? Exactly what he did: the truth.

Whether you think it's corny or not is up to you. But, like Earl said, imagine the coverage he'd get if he was out golfing every weekend. So in your eyes he's fcuked if he golfs and fcuked if he doesn't.

    Makes your opinion useless.

    This is a non-story.

Do you remember specific dates from individual events from five years ago? I don't.

Keep in mind a guy in this position has important meetings and significant events EVERY DAY. No, I don't think he's lying. He probably did get pulled off the course that day. And his handlers subsequently decided, over the course of the next few weeks (turning winter in D.C.) that he shouldn't golf anymore.

Do you think he makes these decisions by himself? Even 4-star generals don't know what city they're in half the time. Their handlers, aides, speechwriters, PR people, secretaries, action groups, country teams ... do it. Not much different than governors, senators or the president.

wtf? - it aint national security....

you even admitted he said it, so if he is still playing golf from time to time, corny or not - it makes his story a pisstake and bullshit.

which pretty much sums up everything he says.

    What are you talking about?
He says he quit golfing five years ago?
    Why is that news?

Why do you care? What's in it for you? How does it affect your life? Why do you feel compelled to start a thread about it?
