6.29ct. Ruby Ring Fetches $1.3M at Auction

RAPAPORT... Doyle New York auctioned an important 6.29-carat Burma ruby for well-above estimate at $1.32 million during its Alice Appleton Hay estate jewelry sale on April 13. The auction of estate jewels totaled more than $9 million, far exceeding the presale estimate of $4 million to $6 million.

The ruby and diamond platinum ring signed by Cartier (pictured) held a presale price of $60,000 to $80,000 and featured one octagonal-cut ruby flanked by two baguette diamonds approximately 1.30 total carat weight. The GIA report stated that the ruby was of Burma (Myanmar) origin and that it held no indication of heating.

A rare gold pocket watch and perfume sprinkler in the form a miniature flintlock pistol achieved $482,500, also well-above estimate of $100,000 to $150,000. Additionally, an antique diamond Currant Leaf en pampille brooch, circa 1850, sold for $332,500.

I have bought them there in the past, nothing super large but good colour and untreated. I wouldn’t risk it now, too many crooked ‘experts’ and you don’t want to be caught at Yangon airport without a government authorised receipt.
