Retired Gurkhas May Settle In The UK

BANGKOK, THAILAND: More 2,000 Nepali Gurkhas who had retired in the British army before 1997 may stay from the United Kingdom following the passage of a bill.

The Nepali Gurkhas have been part of the British Army for nearly 200 years and at present, there are 3,400 Gurkhas in the United Kingdom forces, 700 of whom are in Brunei. Despite their services for the British army, they were not allowed to migrate to the UK. (ANN/ AsiaNews)

If they are on your side, yes.

God help anyone who crosses them.
I know the events that took place when 3 Gurkhas were detained at her majesty's pleasure.

Our security guards here at our community are all ex-Gurkhas on three-year contracts . . . very good people and quite smart.

In Singapore they are still in active service as well.

I have never been able to figure out why the Gurkhas were not permitted to retire in the UK in the first place. You would think that service in the British army ought to be sufficient.

    A long overdue decision.

Too many clever Africans sucking up Granny's breakfast beans and siphoning it all back to Sudan.

    Sorry, you're just too accommodating.

In many ways - - - yes, you are right. There are too many freeloaders and users of the system . . . but how do you police it all without increasing an already bloated bureaucracy?
