they sure did - and the American and Thai governments.

anything to keep the old Ruskies at bay (ie:Soviet Union through the Vietnamese army)

they (the so-called 'civilised nations') managed to keep Cambodia fucked up for a good 10 extra years after Pol Pot and his cronies were forced out.
They gave arms and money to the KR who were living safely in border camps in Thai territory just so they could keep up the fight against the new Vietnamese backed peaceful Cambodian government.

You also have to remember that the old KR leaders mostly did deals with Hun Sen and the UN after the collapse of the KR resistance. They weren't arrested because they did deals. Dear old PP was one of the few who didn't.

The KR split into factions after 1979, splintered even more in 1985. The side deals done were good until the recent tribunals. Thats why these loathsome individuals were living free in Pailin.

Btw, has anyone been to Pailin, its a fantastic place to visit, loadsa great Khymers and great cycling territory. No hint of KR attitude.

strange really - it's a bit like Hitler living in some mansion in the German countryside finishing off his days in luxury.
I read that Ieng Sary was recently living in a smart house in Phnom Penh.
