Mugabe named as goodwill ambassador by WHO

    cleft lip fooker

The World Health Organization (WHO) has appointed President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe as a "goodwill ambassador" to help tackle non-communicable diseases.
New WHO head Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised Zimbabwe for its commitment to public health.
But critics say that during Mr Mugabe's 37-year rule Zimbabwe's health services have deteriorated, with staff regularly unpaid and medicines in short supply.
Dr Tedros, who is Ethiopian, is the first African to lead the WHO.
He was elected with a mandate to tackle perceived politicisation in the organisation.
Dr Tedros replaced Margaret Chan, who stepped down from her 10-year post in June.

    Controversial decision

    Imogen Foulkes, BBC News, Geneva
The appointment of 93-year-old Robert Mugabe will cause astonishment among many WHO member states and donors.
A goodwill ambassador may be a largely symbolic role, but the symbolism of giving it to a man whose leadership of Zimbabwe has, critics say, coincided with a collapse of its health service, and major human rights abuses, will be very unpopular.

    Crazy.
Perhaps it's one of those situations where they said to themselves, "If we give him this post, maybe it will get him to do a lot more in his own country, besides, he won't last full term anyway".

On a par with making Tony Blair the Middle East Peace Envoy.

Perhaps they're taking their cues from the "Nobel Peace Prize" awards.?

Now it's common knowledge that in his country, donated medicine from the west is sold to patients by medical staff. This has been going on for years.

    Read the fucking thing Jeff.

Will he provide comfort in WHO field clinics in conflict zones? Would one of his suit jackets fetch a high price at auction? Would the presence of a man who is widely accused of human rights abuses encourage more $10,000-a-plate attendees at a gala ball?
Somehow it just does not seem likely, which begs the question, what exactly is Mr Mugabe going to do in his new role? The World Health Organization has not made this at all clear.

Apparently the WHO are back tracking now on account that he's destroyed his countries once good national health system, to the point that he goes abroad for his own medical care at the tax payers expense.

Mugabe flies regularly to Singapore for his medical treatment and the other governments officials go to South Africa to see non white non Zimbabwean trained specialist.

Surely they knew that before bringing him in; gosh, maybe they didn't.

One has got to feel for poor Grace, she will be so humiliated that some people are laughing at Bob.
But then, she may just think no use crying over spilt milk,as long as it is not from my dairy farm that was stolen from those evil white farmers.

Never know, it could spread to FIFA or other influential and thoroughly corrupt organisations. But not the UN, that's way beyond redemption.

Thank goodness that silly idea was quashed. What were they thinking? Mind you the newly appointed head is famed for his research on bloodsuckers.

May have been quashed, but bad enough to close or better still burn the shop down that it was proposed, and then passed through several stages to acceptance.

In the 1990's Mugabe accused the WHO NGOs operating in Zimbabwe of being SPIES. He deported the lot of them western do gooders, and then stole the WHO funds.
Then WHO appoint Mugabe as Ambassador.
This is the result of WHOs leadership being Africanised.

I like that, Africanised as a euphemism for ignorant and thoroughly corrupt.

    Careful, closing in on racism.
