US Man Charged With Killing 3 Muslims Faces Death Penalty Hearing

    DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA—
The man accused of killing three North Carolina college students - their family says because they were Muslim - is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing to determine whether he could face the death penalty.

Prosecutor Roger Echols said in court documents last month he plans to seek the death sentence if Craig Stephen Hick, 46, is convicted of first-degree murder.

Hicks is charged with the February 10 killings of 23-year-old Deah Shaddy Barakat, his wife - 21-year-old Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, and her sister - 19-year-old Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha.

Police say he appears to have been motivated by a long-running dispute over parking spaces at a condominium complex.

If the people that were killed had been Christian (or jews hindu Buddhist etc) would the name of the religion have featured in the headline-- I doubt it.

^ I would hope so, yes, because it's claimed it was the motive for the murder.

Irrelevant because their faith wouldn't have been a factor, as it is said it was here.

Where are the rabid anti-Muslim posters that inhabit TD? Shouldn't they be rejoicing and singing that 'dem damn muzzies dun mess with the USofA'

So was it over a parking space or because they were Muslims, Muslims always want to bring their religion into everything to play the victim card. The dead are victims but could have nothing to do with what they believed in. Unfortunately so many around the world are killed by Muslims precisely for what they do believe in or for being gay, that's different though!

Discounting the chatter it seems it was over a parking spot but that's not what fits the latest PC outrage narrative...

Yes, let's discount the chatter and call anything that doesn't fit into the apologists' mindframe 'pc outrage narrative' . . . because a triple murder is just pc outrage narrative

Quite frankly, with all the anti-Islam sentiment in the US, it would be within reason to consider the murder was because they were Muslims.

If course the families say it was a hate crime. They want to blame something more than the sad fact that their children were killed for nothing more than a small dispute over a damn parking space.

It was investigated and found to be just an equal opportunity nutter with access to (many) guns he used to threaten people with regularly.

The police should have reigned Hicks in sooner.

If guilty of murdering three people, the murderer should be executed.

Wiki- There have been 43 executions in North Carolina, under the current statute, since it was adopted in 1977. All were for murder and were performed using lethal injection, except those indicated with a * which were performed using the gas chamber.
List of people executed in North Carolina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

First degree murder, so he faces the death penalty in Nth Carolina. Religion has nothing to do with it. Had he performed the same crime in the more liberal states, he would be up for Life imprisonment.

The death penalty seems fairly colourblind there- most of those executed were white and male, but also blacks, a native American and a white female.
