Iran and world powers clinch historic nuclear deal
Tehran agrees to curb its nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief after lengthy negotiations.
World powers and Iran have reached a landmark deal to curb Islamic Republic's nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief after an 18-day marathon negotiations in Vienna.
The accord was announced on Tuesday by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the European Union's policy chief Federica Mogherini in a joint statement in the Austrian capital.
Iran's state news agency IRNA says
Ban on Iran to buy certain dual-use machinery and technology will end
EU and US economic and financial sanctions on Iran will be lifted
Billions of US dollars of Iran's frozen assets will be released
Sanctions on Iran's central bank, national Iranian oil company, shipping lines, Iran air, many other institutions and people will be lifted
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called the deal a "win-win" solution to end "an unnecessary crisis and open new horizons for dealing with serious problems that affect our international community."
"I believe this is a historic moment. We are reaching an agreement that is not perfect for everybody but it is what we could accomplish and it is an important achievement for all of us," said Zarif.
"Today could have been the end of hope on this issue, but now we are starting a new chapter of hope."
Mogherini said the decision demonstrated that "diplomacy, coordination, cooperation can overcome decades of tensions and confrontations".
"It is a decision that openned a way to a new chapter in international relations," she said.

And Netanyahu will be straight on the phone giving orders to Boehner....
All good. Interesting that Obamas two crowning achievements from a worldwide perspective (AHC & now Iran) are considerably less appreciated at home.
It will be fascinating to see the editorial content from the right/ 'pro-israel' brigade.
Well Hitlery has already said that when he has the crown passed to her, the US will attack Iran, so no point holding out much hope for this accord.Originally Posted by sabang
Netanyahu will certainly waste no time trying to undermine or derail any deal. That psychopath has nothing to offer but war and aggression.
Love what Obama did with Kerry - Appeasment in our time.
The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee states the obvious: Obama is the handmaiden of Iran's nuclear bomb.
"Representative Devin Nunes, a California Republican, told me Tuesday that President Barack Obama was incorrect in asserting that the nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers will keep Iran from becoming a nuclear-armed state.
"I don't know what information the Obama administration possesses that indicates this deal will actually prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon or will cause the mullahs to reduce their support for worldwide terrorism, but it sure isn’t the same intelligence we’re seeing in the Intelligence Committee," he said. "Iran has killed hundreds of U.S. soldiers, tried to conduct a terrorist attack in the United States, and is committed to annihilating Israel. This deal will guarantee Iran the capability to carry out its clear intent."
Nunes's skepticism about the deal is supported in part by even some top military advisers and senior officials in the Obama administration. Last week in Israel, for example, General Martin Dempsey, the outgoing chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, said he expected some of the sanctions relief Iran will receive under the deal will go to supporting terrorism. James Clapper, the director of national intelligence, wrote a letter last month to Republican senators confirming that Iran continues to support terrorist groups throughout the Middle East, creating a kind of foreign legion to support its aims in Syria.
The White House has not emphasized Iran's support for terrorism in recent months. Instead, officials have stressed that most of the assets Iran would gain access to under a deal would be used to improve the country's economy. Both Dempsey and Clapper have said in recent months that a deal that limits Iran's enrichment of uranium and provides more access to its nuclear program is better than no deal at all."

Not satisfied with fundamentally transforming just America, Obama's massive ego has goaded him to eventually fundamentally transformng the ME...

This is probably the best thing that could have happened to the Gulf.
Now they can work together eliminating IS.
The downside is that the price of Iranian caviar may go up.
^Let's remember that it was the Bush Administration that reneged on the commitments which in fact nullified the agreement.
Iran Nuclear Deal: A Look at the Winners and Losers
The history books will show that both sides got their fair share of wins and both made major concessions.
WINS FOR THE WORLD POWERS:
Dismantling
Most importantly for the United States, Iran has agreed to dismantle most of its nuclear program, guaranteeing they would not be able to make a bomb for at least one year, over the course of 10 years.
Centrifuges
Iran’s 19,000 installed centrifuges will have to be cut to no more than 6,104 for the next 10 years. The 13,000 decommissioned centrifuges will be sent to monitored storage by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Stockpile
Iran has also agreed to reduce its stockpile of enriched uranium (the material needed to make a bomb) by 98 percent and agreed to halt further enrichment. That material would either be diluted to sold.
Arak
The heavy water nuclear reactor in Arak will be redesigned, preventing Iran from producing weapons grade plutonium there. Iran will ship the spent fuel from Arak and over the next 15 years Iran will not build any new heavy water reactors.
Fordow
Iran will convert its deeply buried Fordow nuclear facility into a nuclear, physics and technology center.
Snap Back
If Iran breaks its commitments, all sanctions could be quickly snapped back into place, according to the terms of the agreement.
Iran Agrees to Halt Nuclear Program in Historic Deal With World Powers
WINS FOR IRAN:
The selling points in Tehran could be the points of derailment in Washington. While Congress has 60 days to review the agreement, it has no authority to amend it. If Congress were to create legislation to stifle the agreement it would need a two-thirds majority vote to avoid a presidential veto. Secretary of State John Kerry said in Vienna today he doesn’t think they’ll try it, but look for Congressional Republicans to use each one of the following points to argue this is a bad deal.
Sanctions
Iran is most pleased with the impending relief of economic sanctions. Once it has been verified that Iran has committed to dismantling its centrifuges and diluting or selling its stockpile of enriched uranium, all economic sanctions will be lifted, effectively releasing over $100 billion in frozen Iranian assets. Economic relief was the driving incentive for Iran.
Inspections Military Sites
Most observers are likely to interpret the inspection, as it applies specifically to military sites, as a victory for Iran. UN inspectors can demand access to nuclear facilities on Iran military sites, but they aren’t immediate or even guaranteed. Any inspections at those sites would need to be approved by a joint commission composed of one member from each of the negotiating parties. The process for approving those inspections could take as many as 24 days, which critics will claim is enough time for Iran to cover up any non-compliance.
Arms Embargo
The final win for Iran is the gradual lifting of an international arms embargo. The accord states that Iran will be permitted to buy and sell conventional arms on the international market in five years; and in eight years they’ll be able to do the same with ballistic missiles. The embargo was a major sticking point throughout the talks, with Iran demanding it be lifted.
Research and Development
Iran gets to continue to conduct research and development related to its nuclear program. There will be certain limitations, but essentially they will be allowed research enrichment activities, as long as it is for peaceful purposes.

Objective.
It is regrettable that the greatest ongoing threat to this landmark deal, are the slews and machinations of US internal politics, and it's bizarre attribute of kowtowing to (appallingly named) "pro-israel" interests. Against the wishes of the American people. And increasingly, the Jewish people. I see no such threat from the other side, in fact I trust them to honor the agreement. It is very much in their interests to do so.
Thanks. Will have a look at it. Suggest folks who oppose or support it read it. Noted those strongly opposed jumped in front of cameras to express the dire consequences of the "deal" prior to the details being published. And as is the norm fail to offer a practical alternative other than more sanctions and threats of military action. Both of which have proven failures to deter Iran's nuclear ambitions.Originally Posted by OhOh
The governments of all involed (P5+1 and Iran) in penning the agreement still need to pass it through their respective legislative bodies but appears the agreement will be implemented much to the chagrin of some.
Time will tell but this agreement is a step towards establishing further cooperation between Iran and the west to address the many "problem" issues plaguing the middle east.
^In the published agreement there are still things to be agreed but it states that a UNSC resolution will be presented and passed. It will, amongst other things abolish all US, EU and UN sanctions against Iran within 90 days.
There then is the "technical" items to be agreed and then observed for five years. The end of the agreement is 10 years away, at which point Iran becomes free of the agreement.
As i have understood it, at least.
Well, even Obama's National Security Advisor can't gloss over the negative aspects of the deal now can she?
SUSAN RICE: WE ‘EXPECT’ IRAN WILL SPEND SOME OF NEW MONEY ON MILITARY, MAYBE ON TERROR
"National Security Adviser Susan Rice said “we should expect” that some of the money Iran gets under sanctions relief as a result of the nuclear deal “would go to the Iranian military and could potentially be used for the kinds of bad behavior that we have seen in the region” on Wednesday’s “Situation Room” on CNN."
