    Olympic security in shambles.

They're either doing an absolute crap job or there's no employment problems in the UK.
What the hell is going on?
This Nick Buckles looks like a sleazy wide boy to me.
G4S boss: Yes, security for Olympics is a humiliating shambles

Humiliating ... Nick Buckles being grilled by MPs
By GRAEME WILSON, Deputy Political Editor
    Last Updated: 18th July 2012
BUNGLING G4S bosses admitted yesterday their handling of Olympic security was a “humiliating shambles” — but refused to give up their £57million fee.

The confession came as furious MPs tore into chief executive Nick Buckles over the failure to supply thousands of guards at Games venues — a fiasco highlighted in our map below.

The chart shows sites where police and soldiers have been called in to provide emergency cover after security staff hired by G4S failed to turn up.

Mr Buckles was asked at the Commons home affairs select committee if the Olympics was a humiliating shambles for his firm.

He replied: “I cannot disagree with you.”

The £830,000-a-year boss admitted the reputation of G4S was “in tatters”. Mr Buckles said he regretted signing a £284million contract for 10,400 guards.

But the firm will take a £57million management fee. He said: “We’ve managed the contract and had management on the ground for two years.”

Fiasco ... map of missing guards
Committee chairman Keith Vaz said later: “This has been the most appalling management. They should waive their entire fee.”
So far G4S has only managed to supply 4,200 staff. This is expected to rise to 7,000. But Mr Buckles admitted he could not guarantee they would all turn up and agreed to pay the bill for troops and cops.

Last night it was reported the Ministry of Defence is drawing up plans to call up an extra 2,000 troops — on top of the 3,500 already drafted in — in case G4S fails to meet even its revised target.

Yesterday 30 out of 300 G4S recruits turned up at Box Hill, Surrey, where cycling will take place. Fifteen out of 50 were at the mountain bike venue, Hadleigh Farm, Essex.

Police from nine forces are also plugging gaps.

Clive Chamberlain, of Dorset Police Federation, whose officers will be on duty for the sailing at Weymouth, said: “The Games will be safer with troops and police.”

Looks like the terrorists are going to have an easy time of it.
Having said that, if I were a terrorist I'd be taking advantage of the huge distraction and drain on resources the Olympics will be to cause havoc elsewhere.

They had to change their name from Group 4 Security to G4S because of all the cock ups they made losing prisoners.

I wonder what their new name will be?

It has emerged that a former Labour Government Minister and former Defence Secretary, is a Director in the firm responsible for the Olympic Games security shambles.

Former Scottish Labour MP, and now a Labour peer, John Reid was recruited by Olympic fiasco company G4S in 2008 when he took up a role as consultant to the controversial security firm. The Scottish Labour politician, who earned the title Baron Reid of Cardowan after stepping down as an MP after Labour lost the 2010 general election, was appointed a consultant to G4S in December 2008 whilst still a Labour MP. Dr Reid, the then MP for Airdrie and Shotts, had held several cabinet posts including Home Secretary and Minister for armed forces, was believed to have been paid £50,000 per year for the part time role, he became G4S director in July 2010.

Three months after recruiting the Labour MP, G4S were controversially awarded a four-year contract to supply private security guards for around 200 MoD and military sites across Britain. The deal, thought to be worth tens of millions of pounds, resulted in criticism from opposition MPs who called it “totally inappropriate”.

G4S had been formed after a merger between security firms Group 4 and Securicor. It has also been reported that Securicor had extensive contracts with the Home Office during Dr Reid’s spell at Whitehall.

At the time of Reid’s appointment with G4S, the firm were already operating in Iraq and Afghanistan after winning a major MoD contract to provide training to British Army units. The former Defence Secretary claimed in 2006 that British Soldiers would complete their term in Afghanistan without a shot being fired.

Former Labour Minister walked through revolving door to Olympic shambles firm G4S

Three men accused of going to Pakistan for terrorist training, while a man and a woman are charged over terrorist material.

Five people have been charged with terrorism offences following arrests by the Metropolitan police counter-terrorism command.
Three men from London – including Richard Dart, who appeared in a BBC Three documentary after converting to Islam – were charged on Wednesday night with offences that involved travelling to Pakistan for training in terrorism between July 2010 and July 2012.

Dart, 29, of Broadway, Ealing, Imran Mahmood, 21, of Dabbs Hill Lane, Northolt, and Jahangir Alom, 26, of Abbey Road, Stratford, are charged with preparing for acts of terrorism between 25 July 2010 and 6 July this year.
The three are alleged to have travelled to Pakistan for terrorism training, to have travelled abroad to commit acts of terrorism, and to have advised and counselled the commission of terrorist acts by providing information about travel to Pakistan and terrorism training, and operational security while there.
Dart was featured in a recent BBC documentary My Brother the Islamist, which chronicled the efforts of his filmmaker stepbrother Robb Leech to understand why the former had rejected his family and embraced an uncompromising form of Islam.
A fourth man, Khalid Baqa, 47, of Priory Road, Barking, is charged with three counts of possession of terrorist material and one count of dissemination of terrorist material. According to the charges, Baqa had CDs containing a document entitled 39 Ways to Support and Participate in Jihad, as well as a number of issues of a magazine called Inspire for distribution to others.
A woman, Ruksana Begum, 22, of Provost Estate, Islington, is charged with possession of a digital memory card containing a document likely to be of use to a terrorist
All five will appear at Westminster magistrates court on Thursday.

Arrests ... seven people nabbed on suspicion of terror offences

SEVEN men have been arrested on suspicion of terror offences after firearms and other weapons were found “hidden” in a car, police said today.

West Midlands Police said one man from West Yorkshire and six from the West Midlands are being questioned on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism following a series of arrests this week.

Police said the contents of the car were undergoing forensic analysis and the suspects’ homes had been searched.

Detectives have been given extra time to question the three men arrested on Tuesday, after the initial 48-hour detention period ran out. They now have until next Tuesday morning to charge or release the men, or apply for a further warrant.

All seven men are being held in the West Midlands.

A spokesman said: “The arrests followed a routine stop of a vehicle by police on the M1 motorway in South Yorkshire on Saturday (June 30).

“The car was impounded on suspicion of having no insurance.

“Firearms, offensive weapons and other material were later found hidden inside, prompting police to take action to trace and arrest the driver, passenger and others suspected of being involved.”

Police said three men aged 23, 26 and 27 from Sparkhill, Birmingham, were arrested on Tuesday morning.
Three more suspects, a 22-year-old from Alum Rock, Birmingham, a 24-year-old from the Moseley area of the city, and a 22-year-old from Smethwick, West Midlands, were arrested on Wednesday evening.

A 43-year old man from Kirklees, West Yorkshire, was detained yesterday.

Detective Chief Superintendent Kenny Bell, head of the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, said: “As soon as the items were discovered in the impounded vehicle, our priority was to protect the public by pursuing and arresting those we believed to be involved.”

There will be BIG plans for this.
I think all these little teams they're catching are just distractions or mavericks.

The 1972 Munich Games are best know for events that occurred off the fields. It wouldn't be too difficult to pull off again considering the clueless numpties pretending to provide security. Forty years from now we could well be discussing the soup-sandwich that was the '12 London Games.

It is a joke that they can't get enough people to cover the jobs. There are 3 million unemployed in the UK - should get some of the lazy fuckers to do some work when it is required.

This G4S lot are taking the piss if they are holding money and not providing what they signed up for.

Amongst other things yes, they want to tear down civilized society and replace it with a barbaric Islamic society.

The point about all this is that any idiot can be trained within an hour or two to search bags and man scanners

Like everything else in the uk the need to ensure compliance with myriad regulation as well as ensure cultural sensitivities be respected means the training role is generally left to pedant consultant types who couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery

By abrogating Responsibility to the army - it can be left to the only organization in the whole uk that can get away with it's employees saying "you need to open yer bag love or you ain't coming in" without facing a harassment, bullying, homophobic or racist assault charge

So you're saying it's good that the company contractually obliged and entrusted to provide the essential service of security at the Olympic games, proves, at the 11th hour, incapable of doing so and so the army must be called in to fill the gap.

Unfortunately that is not the case, it takes years of experience to become good at anti terror, crime and security screening, those hired in people will catch the odd bottle of booze or strike it lucky with a really dumbass terrorist, but mainly they'll be an nuisance to people with nothing to hide.

Any trained targets who might try to beat the system is much more difficult to spot, it takes a lot of experience to see the unusual, and isolate the sometimes invisible to an untrained eye very subtle signals that something might not be right, so if the security is not top notch they will sail through.

The job of comprehensively securing this whole event is extremely difficult, if not impossible to tell the truth, so if someone have bad ideas lets hope some luck is deposited on the good guys side.

And no one of that calibre is likely to be working for G4S for the shit wages they pay, on a temporary contract too.

The best that could be hoped for would be a high visible presence and a few highly trained specialists keeping tabs.

This is yet another example showing the fiction that private companies are always better at what they do than the public sector. This particular lie has been peddled by politicians of all stripes for decades now, and I think people are finally getting fed up with it. The idea that private companies, out to make the most money they can in the short term, can effectively take over security, health care, infrastructure and a host of other jobs which were once and properly the preserve of governments, is bullshit. Pure and simple. They do a worse job, and it costs us more, while they get rich.

Window-licking soldiers with no training provided, at this stage, nothing more than targets. What a wonderful world in which we live.

Let me amend that, a few dead soldiers provide public outrage, when they're slaughtered. Which will amount to a few harshly worded proclamations and a couple diplomats sent home.

    Victory!

Britain is an absolute toothless tiger. Even Thailand has a carrier. Brits share time with the Frogs. Send your submarine sulking off the offending coast. Then what? You've already proven you don't have the balls to intimidate your Falklands fantasy.

You can't stop a motivated cell of religious-freaky zealots, and admit this much, they exist in every city. Good luck.
