You can do it but it will be massively more expensive.
I presume you'd have to get your luggage, exit and check in again, making it a huge waste of time and energy as well as a waste of money.
of course it is allowed, why on earth wouldnt it be.
your wife doesnt know what she is talking about.
you book a return flight to amsterdam, then you book a return flight from amsterdam to london.
collect your luggage after arriving in amsterdam, go to the check in counter and check it in again for the london flight.

ive done it to manchester. bkk-ams, and then ams-man on bmi. saved £150 on a bkk-man round trip.
His wife might mean that she'd need to have a schengen visa as well as a uk visa.
And on that point I think she's probably right.
Or perhaps she just recognises an idea that is bonkers all round when she sees it and is being polite...
its cheaper but can we go out and collect luggage ? dont we go through passport control to do that? she hasent got visa for amsterdam
^^^Very unlikely that would apply to BKK -Ams on Emirates and then Ams - Lon on BA though, no?
dont even have to collect your bags, you can get them checked right through to your final destination.
Frequently Asked Questions about transferring
First flight to the U.K for your Wife, then a direct flight should be best, thereafter for further trips do the indirect ones.
booked qatar save the bother thanks all
^Wait a minute...You didn't "check bin"...
Your wife, to enter the Netherlands, would need a schengen visa.
However, as a fact, she can be in transit on AMS airport and transfer to the UK flight without entering Schengen - she will remain in the passenger area behind customs, at the airborn side. No need for a Schengen visa.
Her luggage will be labelled all the way to the UK, no need to worry about that in AMS. She just needs to make sure when checking in in BKK that they take care of the right labelling. But mentioning the connecting flight will do the trick.
However... on her first flight... wouldnt a direct flight be better?
