    Can't even give up,

    Eearlier I posted this;

OK Butterfly, you win. I've tried to post serious analyses of Thai politics and history in here, I've written about things I've heard and learned, I've talked about the history of Thailand and how Thai politics have come to this pass but you've won, your stalking, vile insults, and petty niggling have finally worn me down. I just can't face the horrible responses, insults, and denigration that I get here as a response to the efforts I make to discuss politics, history, and culture in Thailand. I'll stay with the blogs for the heavy stuff and confine myself here to the lightweight crap that is so obviously preferred by the majority of TD users. Congratulations,.

When I tried to post it I got this (disclaimer: I complained about the post I responded to and it had been deleted because of the complaint, several days after this kind of crap should have been dealt with anyway. BTW, the original issue was in news, not one of the free-for-alls like issues.)

      1. The response wasDrB0b, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
        1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
        2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
I can kind of understand why but still think that allowing serious threads to be destroyed by stalkers and trolls is pathetic unless TD genuinely wants to confine itself to being a construction and embittered people's forum.

^Obviously. The post I complained about was around for a while until it was trashed. It wasn't trashed until I complained. It was no differerent to many other posts that have been on the forum for days. WTF is the point of your mods? I know you're mainly interested in construction but google shows that many people come here to learn about Thailand. Do you think it looks good when first time visitors see serious (as in discussing reality, not being po-faced) discussions about living in Thailand, working in Thailand, the history and culture of Thailand, derailed by morons?

Seems someone has learned what the report button is for, sadly not everybody has time to read every post on this forum everyday of the week.

Mostly I do but sometimes it gets a bit too much. I've got no problem with people disagreeing with me but a licence to insult ahn disrupt, no matter what part of the forum it's in, is beyond the pale. I'm talking about a period of months here, not just a day or two that might have been missed by the volunteer mods on here. TD is probably the best Thai-based forum for those who need to understand the practicalities of moving to Thailand but for those who've been here a while and want to know more and learn about the history, culture, politics, and society of where they live it's an ill-managed joke. TD, imo, has pretty much cornered the market for first time immigrants to Thailand but fails miserably when it comes to catering to those who've lived here a while and want to know more. IMO an equally large market.

DrB0b... please do keep on posting.

I don't quite know what to say about BF & his obsession with hounding your each & every post. Personally, I think it shows poor form on his part.

I long ago, bowed to your knowledge on matters Thai & decided to instead open my thought processes to a wider spectrum of information. This has been somewhat of an eye-opener.

Not quite sure what you can do about BF, except to put him on 'ignore'. Perhaps that'll get him to run out of puff? Under all that, I actually think he's alright.

Probably the same point as the report button, which you've manage to use all of once.

The thing is is that TD was started as a direct consequence to over-moderated forums such as Thai Visa & Ajarn who would delete and ban when people posted something not 'in line' with the management. With that in mind, the mods & DD pretty much leave posts and posters alone unless it is demonstrated that someone has a problem with a post by way of the report button.

The thread you have issues with is in the news section. This section has loads of new threads every day, most of which are simply read or ignored completely. But occasionally, there are threads in there that strike a chord with posters and turn into threads that perhaps should be in Issues where (in theory) they will be moderated with a firmer hand (but we all know it's not happening like that at the moment).

The problem with finding mods for issues is an even greater one, as most people interested in those threads are usually very biased/derranged and wouldn't make very good mods. Those posters who are fairly well balanced, tend to stay away from Issues.

    What to do?

If you feel so passionately about it and believe theres a market why not start your own forum?

I see your point, but I'm not talking about issues, I'm talking about news and members only. As for issues itself, divide it into more realistic sub-forums and ask those who've shown that they're capable of discussing more than one side of an issue to be mods. There are already issues mods so it's not impossible to have mods, it's just important to have mods who aren't either maniac drunks, psychopaths who delete everything they disagree with, or so soft they couldn't mod their own farts. It is possible, in political parts of a forum, to have moderators who can have their own opinions and still be fair, the problem is that TD is too lax and allows/allowed issues (and let's face it, nobody gives a fku about issues) mods to act with impunity.

I know that issues isn't considered an important part of TD. When I first arrived at TD I thought issues was the least interesting of the TD forums but as time goes on and the Thai tard's continue to screw up the country I think it's more and more the first landing-place for new members.

I don't mod Members Only, so I'll say nowt about it.

As for News... well it's about News and it's bloody tedious for the mods to trawl through every bloody post in there. The mods aren't 'hire hands', they're here because they enjoy TD just the same as other posters do. With that in mind, I think you can see the importance of the Report Post button, because at the end of the day the mods have to rely upon the other posters to flag when stuff needs sorting out.

well maybe it a bit of history to put things in perspective. Nobody is denying you to express your opinion, and certainly not me. The vile insults started with you in the early days of the anti-Thaksin movement. I also tried to take it with humor when I could and I am used to it so not big deal for me, but apparently you weren't amused when I return the favor. Now, you come back after a long absence ( and I think we all missed you ) and drop a news bomb on us. Of course, we are going to react, and some of the things you said were just plain wrong and stupid and needed to be addressed. Making fun of you in some of the things you said is just a way for me to show you how misguided some of your opinions are because it would seem that your logic has ceased to function completely recently and I find this very sad as I always liked your prose. I didn't mean anything in an harmful way, but I don't have double standards. Just because you are DrB and not BlackGang doesn't mean I shouldn't ridicule your posts when I see something that is just wrong on so many levels. Maybe I am wrong, but I do react passionately when I see arguments failing all kind of logic and becoming plain blind or dishonest.

Anyway, to put this matter to rest, please accept my apologies if I did offend you by going to strong in my arguments or ridiculing you. There is nothing to win here. I certainly do not wish you to stop voicing your views. Maybe I should put you in ignore for your own protection

I think you do actually, we all do eventually. I might just be a bit more aggressive in my arguments than you are used, mostly my German side.

anyway peace DrB, and accept my apologies if you feel I was going after you too strongly,

I tend to agree although repartitioning it won't likely stop trolling. Since I first joined TD I was puzzled why a forum for folks interested in Thailand has a US Domestic Issues sub forum. If there is to be a separation from the main Issues forum expect it should be Thai Domestic Issues.

The issue in Issues is the genre of items "debated". Politics and religion inevitably bring out the worst in many and can quickly turn into personal attacks. Issues has 106,000 post as we speak. Only Thailand/Asia News and the Lounge have more.

If Issues is to be for serious debate, as it is purported to be, then moderation to keep it as such should be appropriate. If it was, Issues posts would be much lower than 106,000. More in the order of 6,000 and I may be overstating.

No matter the forum, it is frustrating for members who put time and effort into a post only to have it countered with one liner "opinions". At some point, members who do take effort in developing their posts give up just as you have.

TD, as advertised, is a place to come and have fun. As such moderation is very light. Expecting members to change their stripes as they move from forum to forum and thread to thread is a big ask.

I enjoy your posts and appreciate the effort you obviously put in them. But, as you say TD may not be the place to expect all it's members to do the same.
