    The Meanest Dog?

Gowing up on a farm in the states we had our share of dogs, mostly mutts and inbreds. However throughout the years, we had; a German shepherd, a St. Bernard, numerous hound dogs and a Rotttweiler. As life goes, some lived for a year or two and one an Australian shepherd lived for about 18 years. Hell of a dog.

But the meanest? A scrangy inbred between a German shepherd and a hound dog.

This dog would follow me on my chores regardless of the weather and if a stranger showed up ,then Katy bar the door. Never did have a collar or leash on this dog and never did any sort of training. Just one mean dog. When I left home the dog left. Actually, I think my old man shot her as he could not stand the dog.

So what kind of dog do you think is the meanest?

Any dog without proper care or attention can turn mean and nasty.

I guess that would apply to ex wives also.

I'm not joking, it may well not be big but it's ucking agressive.
Even the scanky soi hardened mongrels are frightened of it.

There are some psycho dogs around just like psycho people. Best to just shoot them ones. But generally, I reckon a dogs personality is moulded in much the same way as humans,-- half by genetics and half by the environment in which they are brought up.

I am a dog lover (and animals in general), but you got to remember that dogs are evolved to be hunting and killing machines with a very strong social element in their makeup. Hence the reason they can be ruthlessly violent and brutal to enemies or prey while passive and loyal to family. Its up to us how we mould those genetic traits into something compatible within human society.

Back in the day my girlfriend's stepfather had a German shepherd named 'Mutzie' who he kept locked up in the old coal room in the basement. The dog was vicious and it used to growl when anyone went near the door. In three years of visiting the house I never saw the dog but I think it was the scariest dog I've ever known .

Many moons ago I had guard dogs for a shop I owned... One of the guard dogs was a one-eyed, crazy Doberman... The dog was great around me, but if anyone came into the shop that she didn't like, she would stalk them... Without fail, she would sneak up behind them and bite them on the ass... I don't know about mean, but it sure was funny...

Pretty much. I didn't watch the '10 most aggressive dog breeeds' vid, but I can probably name most of them off the top of my head. And guess what? They were bred (& inbred time & time again) to be aggressive by us.

Sure you get the occasional 'bad apple', but, in most cases, if you come up against a truly aggressive dog, look to its owner or its breeding.

^Is that your ridgeback smoking the cigarette, dogcatcher? The dog in that photo looks like my dog, only mine is a non-smoker.

What's worse than a mean dog? A pack of nine mean dogs, with only one Labrador around to try to talk sense into them:

I got a German shepherd dog back when I used to run pubs for a living.

The thing was as sweet as you like until it saw a policeman or a black man, then the mad sod went into full attack mode, he nearly bit a couple of Coppers that came into the bar one day but the cops just said it's ok the dogs just doing it's job.

He nearly got a few black men soon after and it was becoming clear that it was a liability and it's days were numbered.

Not long after than it tried to bite a black kid and that was the last straw, I don't believe in keeping racist dogs that like to bite kids.

I took it to the vet to have it killed but the vet was relocating to Irland and wanted the dog for himself as it had a cruffs winner in it's liniage.

I was glad to be rid of that one.
    It wasn't me!

My grandfather had a shepherd/golden mix with the same problem. Went completely apeshit one day when we were waiting for Pop in the car and black meter-maid approached the vehicle. Smartest dog I- or anyone- ever saw, just that one quirk. Also the only dog I ever saw kill a boar coon one-on-one. The last time I saw him do that he was about 16. I guess that qualifies as "mean," but I never saw him actually bite a person.
