Yup, I have just about enough. I have been in Thailand for a continuous 15 months and it's driving me absolutely crazy. Normally I would do 8 months here then go home for a month or two and come back.

This time around I got screwed by British Airways and lost my (half used) $2800 RT ticket. Pricks.

So this coming April I'll be headed home for at least 6 months. Work, save and then come back to Thailand for maybe 2-3 months and travel the world the rest of the time.

I've got stuck in a rut here and it's driving me crazy. I could never live here on a long term basis. I just need to go home at least once a year to get my head screwed back on straight.

It's getting fckin boring here. I mean what else is there to do besides drink, party and drink some more? I'm no tourist and can't stand doing "touristy" things. I don't drink much anymore, so that leaves me with what?

So we'll see how it goes but I can't wait. I'm sure some will say "once you get home you won't be able to wait to get back". Maybe so but at least at home I'll be working towards something and saving some cash rather than just getting by here in Thailand.

You TDer's ever feel like that? Like you just have to go home?

Definately sounds like you need a break back in reality there mobs! I guess it's a bit different for people working in a regular 9-to-5 or whatever job, it just becomes routine. I'd probably have gone bit stir-crazy long ago myself without that.

And the 9-5 thing definitely would have helped. I can't understand how some guys come here to retire to some village in the middle of nowhere. If the forums and internet weren't around they probably wouldn't be able to stay as long as they do.

I understand your position perfectly mate as I have just come off an almost non-stop party/ retirement scenerio covering 5 years and have decided to get back to my business roots and have now gone back to work in Bangkok 3 days a week.

Unless you have something productive to do here which needs dedicated commitment you can become bored with the other life Thailand can offer.

Except I'm a thai but need to be in a farang land sometimes...just for a mind cleansing. I too will go nutz if I have to live in thailand fulltime or year in year out.
I have found the west to be a bit more suitable for me, both physically and mentally. However thailand is a great place for a short time visit tho, and I'm not talking about shagging and drinking here.

KW, I already got a great job lined up for when I return to the states. I'll be able to work for 6 months a year and travel the rest.

I've had my fun here and spent almost 4 years in this country. I did and saw just about everything that interested me in the first year I was here but after that I was not really able to do much else except spend time in Thailand. Not much travelling after that because I am now on a budget.

Mooncake, I agree. I always knew when it was time for me to go home for a month or two. I would feel real anxious and the littlest thing would piss me off. Someone cuts me off on the motorbike and normally it''s no big deal as it happens all the time. I know it's time to go home for a recharge when things like that really start to get to me.

I know if I have to live in Thailand fulltime, I will have to lower my standard and expectation “on many things“. And accept many things as the way they are - face value, or its just the culture things as the immediate/obvious explanation.
The problem is that....most times i just can't.

I think if you go to thailand with a level head and the mental readiness that….“don’t expect too much, then you won’t feel disappointed, or a laid back attitude“…..then I think you will do fine.

I have found that the expats who “do have the option” of be able to go back home to live anytime they choose to w/ free from financial worry, ..do tend to be the ones that have the least complaining and happier generally, whether they choose to exercise that option or not.
Because they can have the best of both worlds whenever they want with just a plane ride away.

Whether the west or Thailand,..each place has its pros and cons to me, it just depends on.. why are you there and what can you tolerate in exchange for whatever reason(s) as why you’re there in the first place?

For me, of what I “know, can do, and my overall personality”..
the overall benefits by far outweigh the costs here…. being in the west most time of the year.
For now anyway
