Thanks for the ideas - i cant' update the BIOS - I don't have a floppy!
and all of the sites that claim you updatefrom CD/DVd are worthless, tried already, waste of time! Tried again and again - doesn't work.
The second piece of shit i bought was as ASUS 9400 gt graphics card - and, whether due to this problem or not, the CD ROM drivers will not even install, its an EN94000GT to be exact, another 2K down the pan!!
Question - (now I have the ATI driver working and am no longer in VGA mode) if I plug in the card, can I simply install the drivers rather than going through the whole CD install and installing the crap system software too?
Thanks a lot, for your effort, however, 1 I have no floppy, and 2: I spent about 4 hours unnsuccescfully trying to make sense of a few toss pots ideas of how to update the BIOS via a CD.DVD - in the end - I gave up , it was a cmplete hocus pocus pile of shit that simply wouldn't work!
Fuck it - I'll take the whole shit load in to the Com Plaza tommorrow - let them get on - enough fuckin headaches! -get it working or "money Back" That should scare the shit out of them - the thought of HANDING BACK some cash should see it fixed pretty damn quick!
Go to SDRAM, DDR2 and DDR RAM memory upgrades from Crucial.com and run the system scanner tool (not the memory tool advisor) on that page. It will tell you exactly what you need.

you can do it from CD or even USB - you just need to create a boot CD - go the whole hog and get this ISO Ultimate Boot CD - Overview and burn it to CD , it will give you a DOS prompt from a menu + a host of diagnostic tools for playing with.
set your BIOS to boot from CD , boot the UBCD
< d/load before you boot to dos > download the bios and the flash tool from intel , and put the on you C drive some where easy to get to ( maybe c:\bios )- when you have your dos prompt change to c drive - c: - then change directory to your folder you have the bios image and the flash tool - cd bios - directory list to make sure you are in the right spot - dir - and then off you go and flash the prom.
for nvidia chips on graphics cards , just download the latest forceware drivers - massive dload though - 80 meg last time I got them - I normally go to MajorGeeks.com - Download Freeware and Shareware Computer Utilities. as they have the update URL as they happen - select drivers from the lefthand menu , scroll down to the Nvidia forceware for your OS - winXP |MG| Nvidia Forceware for Windows XP20003 190.62 DownloadOriginally Posted by Missismiggins
that will sort out the video card.

If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.
Two days ago you was planning on dumping 40/50k on a new I7 build, but you go out and buy this piece of poo ???
Why don't you use this as your sig? I can't recall many posts where you haven't been foaming.Originally Posted by Missismiggins

I unfortunately have to keep 5 computers running for my business and family needs, and your problem is probably created by changed hardware, and will be simply fixed, if you take it back! When you consider that almost every component is "plug and play" which also means "unplug and don't play" ie, if someone bumped it getting it in and out of the car.......give them the benefit of the doubt, and in any case quietly giving them "a fair go" to fix the problem , before blowing them away, may produce a much better result! If you really want results try the other tack and turn up with a bunch of flowers and suggest that they would be better off selling flowers than fixing computers.......what would you do if offered a bunch of flowers?
Miggins you gotta be kidding me. You never checked what you bought. Then you have to get your son involved because you dont know your ass from a hole in the ground and you are blaming the Thais. No wonder many of them think we are assholes.
Why do these things always happen to you, miggins?
I'm sensing a common denominator at play here.
Sell it to the neighbours Miggs
There you are MMiggs, we all agree you have to take a righteous stand against the "new jews" of Thailand

Miggins, Mrs
Mrs. Miggins is a fictional character from the second and third seasons, played in the latter by Helen Atkinson-Wood. There is a real-life pie shop called Mrs Miggins' of long standing in the Northumberland town of Hexham, near where Rowan Atkinson grew up, though whether this is the source of the character is unknown. In series two, she is the proprietor of a Pie Shop. She is often mentioned but never seen. Percy claims that she is "an old polish Jew, bed-ridden from the nose down". It was also revealed that she planned to celebrate the return of Sir Walter Raleigh by making a commemorative pie in the shape of an enormous pie, prompting Lord Blackadder to remark, "What an imagination the woman has." Blackadder claims the cost of a 'slap up binge' at Mrs. Miggins' is three pence. She was effectively an unseen running gag.
Yeah, looks like you really got a good deal on that one -- those Macs are just crap. Those PCs are so much better, as we can see -- hey, maybe Butterfly can help you with that, seeing as he walks around with a PC in his ass most of the time.
Try counting and adding up the cost of your time of dealing with a 'great PC deal' - I just buy the Mac I need, it works out of the box, and I don't have to post any long threads about crappy hardware that doesn't work because you thought you knew what you are doing - but didn't.
