BBC I Player in Thailand

I spent a few months in England last year and found the online BBC I player great you can click and play the last fortnights TV. I understand that this feature is not available outside the UK is there a way to reroute through a server or something (yes, i know fuck all about computers) so I can use the I player and online media from Thailand? Any ideas?

It might work if you can find an UK proxy such as Proxify or such.

Uk proxy server, some listed in the computer forum funnily enough.

I think its a bit tricky as the BBC has somehow blocked access through proxy etc. There might be a long way round (or an easy one) but I didnt find a solution when I was in Thailand.

I shall do a thread over the weekend on how to find open proxies that you can stick in your browser and do it that way rather than using known proxy servers.

Not as many programmes as the BBC but 5 do something similar. Ive only ever watched The Gadget Show so Ive no idea whats on 5

Yeah it's a bugger but you can still listen to the radio progs, today, the archers, plays etc. I'd love to be able to see the TV though, did see a 5 quid a month service to access it or VPN (virtual private network) but you have to order some hardware from the US for that.

I wouldnt hold your breath for DD to do a thread on it, hes probably forgot about it already.

Use Hulu, Pandora, or the BBC iPlayer from any country

No idea if it still works

Try this:

FilmOn-TV watch live Television channels broadcasting TV on the Internet.

Not only the BBC channels but ITV as well, plus several others. You have to download the software and there is a subscription of $14 a month or $135 a year, though they are shortly introducing a pay-per-view scheme too.

Looks interesting but i doubt my TOT connection would be able to stream HD content quick enough. It's bad enough with YouTube.

I am sure (99.9%) that there was an announcment last week or the week before that the BBC was going to make this available Worldwide...

You can check here, I don't use it, nor really want to but if it helps OK.

I Havent' checked the links, as I say, it is not something I use or would need to, so if it is a load of shit then I apologise upfront! I only read the first one which seems relevant, the rest...they are up to you!

The other thing to consider is, even if you can get it, will it work?

Even if you had a 20Mb connection here, the minute you try to access anything on the WORLD WIDE WEB, Thailands connection seem to fall a bit short, eg. you can get about 2.5MB/s on a link to Bangkok, but the minute you try to access somewhere like Hong Kong or Singapore and the speed drops 10 fold, probably better off getting a mate to tape it for you and post it!

Yes you still have to pay a license fee. You can use the iPlayer whether you have a license or not, the iPlayer does fall under the license fee so if you use it without one and get caught its similar to using the TV without a license. Not sure if anyones been caught or how theyd find out but I see a lot of adverts targetting tax dodging students to get a license for watching the iPlayer.
