Thread: Advice on improving my dogs' smell

I have 2 thai dogs about a year old.......great friends, and a constant source of fun....BUT......they like to eat and roll around in buffalo poop. They smell like a buffalo!!! What can i spray on them so my wifey and i can get close to them? I can't shampoo them every day (not healthy), and when i do it's a matter of minutes before they find another good source of "thai dog deodorant".
I can't wear this clothes pin on my nose forever. Help.....PLEASE!!!!

Take them to the beach or river for swimming.

I tried that.....works real good for about as long as it takes them to find another pile of buffalo poop.........

I can't stand the smell of buffalo poop.....reminds me of an old GF........

Any of the above should do the job.

Other than that, train the dogs not to roll in the shit. I know they love it...dogs smell somet rotten or rancid and the have the over whelming urge to roll arounf near or on it...weirdo's.

You could roll in Buffalo poo yourself, then you won't mind the aroma ...

Just lucked onto an e-mail about 101 uses for WD40..........just found 102........works like a charm.......

Used to have the same problem with our Aussie Blue Cattle Dogs. Always rolling in cow shit or something dead. Didn't seem to happen with other breeds of dogs around the place, mainly just the Bluies.
Blue Cattle Dogs are about 50% Dingo back in their breed make up. And the Dingo is in fact the Asian Wild Dog and not really native to Australia.
I see a lot of dogs in Thailand that are quite obviously domesticated versions of the Asian Wild Dog and crossbreeds of them. And I am pretty sure the poop fetish is strongly linked to the breed. It may well be an instingtive thing with the dogs wanting to disguise their scent when stalking prey animals.

I seriously doubt you are going to be able to stop your dogs from following their instincts.

Pandas spot on there, your only hope is to work with them to train them not to do it but they love it. Having a fenced yard is a good idea for a number of reasons.

Yeah..Panda that's my dog's picture.....except his tail isn't bushy. The WD40 covers up the smell quite well.

I had a Beagle when I was a kid and in the spring there were dead deer and other animals around that were winter kill and that little bastard was an awful mess if he could find something dead to roll in.
But isn't WD40 a sort of petrolium product and won't that be kind of toxic to spray and leave on skin?

That would be OK then, but kinda spendy compared to a cheap Nam Pla that would work.

Thats because Shar Pei are a more civilized dog and I have had a few of em and never seen even a baby one piss on the floor.

Shoot the dogs, have them stuffed by a qualified taxidermist, spray with an odour / aroma acceptable to yourself. Job done.
