    A Thai That REFUSED Money!

There is good and bad in the world, as I have discovered over the years, and Thailand seemed to have more than it's fair share of scammers and money lovers.

I was pleasantly surprised tonight when I took my boy for a haircut ( it's normally 20 baht, so I give him 30 or 40, he gives the guy a tip and everyone leaves feeling happy!) Tonight was a bit more important, he has some display at school tomorrow, and the teachers have told him he needs to be SMART!, and as I do, I forgot about the haircut, so it's maybe 6 pm, most places around us are closing already, but we take a chance and luckily the hairdresser is still open.

Give the boy 40 Baht, tell him to give the guy a tip.

20 minutes later my lad comes back to the car, tells me "Today is only 15 Baht for small kids" he would only accept only 20 Baht, (15 + a 5 Baht tip, wouldn't (REFUSED) to take the additional 20))

Well, sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised, the guy knows my son, he knows his old man is a farang, yet he wouldn't take a 20 baht tip...and, he always takes VERY good care of my son, me, I just sit in the truck and wait...when he's finished, you can't complain, even though he cuts their hair almost in the dark!

    A Thai, not swiping a 20 baht note from a child's hand?

Call the newspapers, we'll go to press on this one!

I Know, unbelievable, but the guy would not take it! Good for him, at 6pm where we are, I would have galdly paid 100 Baht just to get his hair tidy for school in the morning (he looked like a toilet brush..I cut it myself the last time with the old Wahl")
So, like I say, there is some decency in people here, despite the rip off stories!

But why do you wait in the car? Why wouldn't you go in with him and have a chat to the barber?

I just offered to send my G/F some money while i wait for my visa application. She replied that if it helps to get me back to LOS quicker, i should keep it. She is no angel but i think she is a bit bonkers. (She thinks i am cute for example) make that very bonkers.

Well, you know, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!
Sadly, being naieve, I took your comment at face value...but what the hell..still surprising a Thai refusing 25 Baht!

I was simply pointing out something that is "normally" unusual here, especially where the Whitey is concerned!

There is a restaurant outside of Korat, after Dan Kwian the Pottery village and before the turn to Korat resort...

The guy advertise his pizza and steaks on a road sign

A panel in the place warns you that they do not accept tip, sorry !

If you try he will just remind you of the panel and make some important sorry stuff.. sometimes amusing butfinally i found out that the tip was not worth anyway...

Nice place, crap food, gentle chap, no tip.

Fellow was a few years in California and claims to have the best pork ribs over the planet, well if you never left Korat it migth be true, it is a hi-farmer place to eat the farang kind of food...NO TIP

this might sound silly, but I find Thai in general to be rather honest, only very few instances when they try to rip you off, but in general I find them to be rather honest

actually I will go as far as saying more honest than farangs,

I once went into town on the Songtaew to buy a new laptop. I was a dopey foker that day, tired or something and I got off the Songtaew and left the laptop on there. I paid the driver and as I was walking away an old lady who was smaller that box called me back and gave me the box. I tried to offer her a 100 tip, i joked with her to buy herself a few beers, but she was having none of it.

This might be truer than not Butters. But such a comment will be akin to blasphemous......

I also have to ask the question, why the fook do you not take care of your children and go in there to supervise the haircut?

    How old is your child?

    Quite common in my experience.

Most are very generous as well, if they can afford to be.

My son has a much better command of the local dialect than me, and, to be honest, it is better to sit in the car and listen to a CD than to sit in a barbers shop listening to people talk about the "farang" especially when they address the farang as an "object" rather than a person...not one to get pissy, but that's the way it is!
It's a much happier situation, they don't piss me off ..I don't piss them off!
