    Posters Who Jumped the Shark

There is a website called jumptheshark.com in which people debate the exact point a TV show started to go downhill. Why not apply the same concept to forum posters?

Smeg: Agrees to hotseat interview with BKKPhil. People didn't know if Smeg was for real, a single poster, or just a clever troll. After we learn (somewhat) the truth about him, he just isn't as menacing a figure as he was before.

Captain Sensible: Finally arrives in Thailand. His post count drops off and seems to lose interest in the forum. The controversy surrounding his encounters with other posters you can read in the Members Forum.

Smiley: Becomes a mod at ajarn and starts deleting posts from people he sees as troublemakers. The final nail in the coffin that led to the permanent split in the ajarn forum membership.

    Biohazard:
the first time he posted a response on a forum.

Daisy/Soph: Gets married. Probably finally came to her senses and realizes she is spending too much time talking to us weirdos.

I'm not an expert, but i think Sensible's downfall was being repeatedly banned from all the forums he was a member of. Okay, okay, he's not exactly banned here i know, just 'unwelcome'.

Actually, i would be very receptive to seeing the return of the prodigal son. Would certainly stir things up a bit. I feel a comeback is on the cards.

It will be entertaining to see which other forum legends' names are invoked on this thread.

Don't know what happened to him. So what event led him to "jumping the shark"?

I will agree with you about Smeg, but Macha gets my nomination as one of the more pleasant posters on the board.

I didn't believe that Macha existed as anything other than another poster's alter ego, but I am assured on Marmite's word as a gentleman that he lives and breathes.

I suppose this means I shall have to start being polite to him .

^Great OP njdesi. I miss Soph and Treacle (both the poster and the sticky stuff). I prefer women posters; they are always far more intelligent and responsible in their replies....It's also nice to have them on hand to make a nice cup of tea or knit a wooly scarf when required.

I'll look out for the original website you mentioned; I have some very strong opinions on Antiques Roadshow.

i actually found that within seconds i could estimate the value of a stormtrooper in a box or a piece of wedgwood.
i once recognised a set of Oxford chairs 3 minutes before the apparent expert and had to be refrained from calling the bbc by my wife on a account of being an embarrassing drunk with delusions of grandeur.

I used to love that programme (AR), but I was well disappointed if someone didn't get rich every week.

Did you see the one where a lad took his Great-grandmother's collection of ivory dildos in? They were worth thousands aparently.

I love watching the impatience of the 'guests' as the 'expert' rattles on - you can see them biting there lips trying to restrain themselves from screaming, 'JUST TELL ME HOW MUCH IT'S WORTH'.

If elephants could talk I'd imagine a conversation with the hunter along the lines of, 'Hold on a second, you're going to kill me because somebody wants to do what with my tusk!?'

My old man deals in antiques as a hobby.
He does very well for himself using Ebay.

He pockets 200 quid plus a week in profit from his tinkerings.

He once made 90 quid on a milk bottle lid he found in the bottom of a box he bought.

    90 quid.

Got a friend that make his living in antique lighters. Bought an enamled watch lighter for $1800 sold it for $25,000. Before I cut my ponytail off got accused of bein' that big dude with the ponytail on AR. Going to the antique shows got treated very well whenever I wanted to buy something.
I lost the pnonytail and about 30 lbs, don't miss either.

    Raphaela:
Like Sensible, jumped the shark when she actually arrived in Thailand. Her most entertaining posts happened when she was the armchair expert back in farangland. Unfortunately, she finally arrived in LOS and gained a more realistic, accurate understanding of the place. Good for her personal growth, but shitty in terms of forum entertainment value. Remember Tomcat's bitchy comments and snide remarks about her?

    Care to elaborate?

How about posters who start topics threatening to stop posting or leave the forum permanently? Has anyone ever followed through on this "threat"?
