What is the world coming to? Bloody PC...

Is there any western nation that hasn't gone completely PC fuckin' stupid lately? A scan over the pages of the Sydney Morning Herald website today certainly leaves me thinking not...

    Britain

For a couple of weeks, Britain's regulators banned Tourism Australia advertisement because of the use of the tagline "Where the bloody hell are ya?" Regardless of what you think about the campaign, a somewhat overly PC reaction which was fortunately overturned following intervention by the Australian tourism minister.

    Canada

After Britain reversed it's above decision, Canada have restricted the showing of the advertisement because of the use of the word "hell" and the line "I've bought you a beer!". Fuckin' what????

    Australia

We are no better. The head of Cricket Australia indicates fans will be ejected from the Ashes series next summer if they use the taunt "Pommy bastards" as it is deemed racist. Jeez...

    United States

And the good old US of A ? Well, they make headlines because this teacher was let off for screwing a 15 year old student because he was too traumatised to take the witness stand. Too traumatised?!? I would jhvae cut off my right arm just to have a teacher like this when i was 15, let alone to shag her a few times...

    Hmmm......

We had a teacher at High School a bit like that. We used to spend all lesson trying to look up her dress.

I think the picture shows her expression as she watches Torbers cut his right arm off.

    Exactly!

So if she tapped you on the shoulder for bit of action, you sure as hell wouldn't have run home to tell mum and start up counselling sessions, would you?

I don't think this PC stuff is such a big deal really - it's just guidelines after all.

Surely better to have this than the total opposite you get here.

just look at half the job adverts in the BK Post - ie: Female required aged 20-28 , must be attractive etc..

or, it being acceptable to point at a white man in the street and shout 'farang'

PC is good to an extent.

Pool Cleaner is not good to any extent....

My year 4 teacher posed for playboy. My mate bought a copy of it to school and she busted him with it showing all the kids - she transfered the next day.

    Miss Archer was her name.

I actually think they did Australia a favour - the campaign just reinforces the stereotype impression people have of Australians as loud, rude and unsophisticated. I actually fail to see what the target group of the campaign was. Certainly not families with children.

Is that just a stereotype? I thought it was for real, especially as even the tourist authority believes it

no, I did meet an Australian once who had been to school

we even have one on here, for PCs sake. apparently

Well...they may have done them a favour, but only in terms of the increased publicity.

Now all involved have clearly stated the campaign was deliberately "tongue-in-cheek"...a phrase that seems to have been forgotten in the highly literal PC world we now seem to live in. But just to remind some of you...

    tongue-in-cheek (tŭng'ĭn-chēk')

adj. Meant or expressed ironically or facetiously.

I actually fail to see what the target group of the campaign was. Certainly not families with children.
Why, the "loud, rude and unsophisticated" market, of course.

Don't you have any of those in Britain/France/Germany/Canada/United States?

There you go...and we mistakenly figured that market was quite large...

Torbers, are you suffering from "things are bloody weird here, but I'm gonna try to cheer myself up by trying to find some oddities from where I escaped from" syndrome?

I suffer from the exact reverse syndrome

    Erm, no Smeg...

I was reading the Sydney Morning Herald website and was surprised by the number of articles that had as their basis issues that I thought highlighted the increasingly PC nature of the western world.

Then, as a member of a forum where you discuss things, I thought I would start a thread about it to (a) bring some of the issues to the attention of others who might be interested and (b) to hear other perspectives.

But thanks for your attempt to psycho-analyse me, anyway...
