Why i can't do this one room "apartment" living thing

In all my time in Thailand I have always given myself the space and luxury of at least 75 Sq Metres of living space, ie a separate living and bedroom and a bathroom where I can swing a cat should it be necessary to do so.

I recently took a Thai friends advice and decided to save on money and get one of these one room set-ups, where you chill out, relax, watch TV, get pissed and entertain within view of the bed, all in one space, does rather become tiresome after a couple of weeks. In fact now I f**king hate it.

Seeing my unmade bed, dishevelled duvet and the bloodstain from where me and a GF couldn't keep our selves off eachother even when she was menstruating is a constant reminder that I need to wash the bedclothes, and then if I did launder the duvet and sheets, there's the small matter of there is no balcony, just an area where the aircon thingy is and a small area of outside space with enough area to hang up a plastic cheap underwear hanging thing if I ever fancied hand washing some Y-fronts and socks in an emergency. I can't even hang the f*cking laundry out unless I was a midget. Even then it'd only be two sets of clothes at the most due to the space, or lack of it.

Also, the security and cleaners are nosey f*ckers too, I made the mistake of being nice to the young security guy and once bought him a can of coffee. Three days later he knocked on my door just after midnight knowing when I was alone, cadging a cigarette off me. I should have slammed the door in his face. At all the other complexes I've lived on, there have been several security who respect the residents, as the residents I have lived amongst in the past have been pretty well-to-do, ie, rich and of high social rank.

The bunch of low class folk I share this sorry block with are not worth pissing on if they were on fire I'm sad to say, and they have sometimes three to one room and make so much noise (luckily that don't bother me) that I wonder if there's a youth club running just down the corridor.

I suppose I only have myself to blame. I normally budget at least 10,000 Baht a month for living and this place is of the 5,000 Baht a month variety. As they say you get what you pay for.

So I have decided to just piss off out of here after two months of a six month contract. I haven't paid the rent as of last month and I will not be paying at the end of this month. They have my deposit so they can keep all of that to make it up. Ok, I stand to lose a couple of grand but where I will be moving on to is well worth it at the end of the month.

I will also be staying at a hotel for a week so am looking forward to a bit of luxury in that sense as well.

    Phew!

Hope your staying in a suite.

I couldn't do the one room thing either. Damn hard especially if more than one. Don't know how some of the Thais do it with 4 or 5 in one room.

I'm sure i remember a lengthy thread of yours on TV when some security guys became jealous of your high rolling (to them), hedonistic lifestyle, and decided to give you some grief. Entertaining thread.

Anyway, the current place doesn't sound too great, not worth lasting the contract if you're not happy. Onwards and upwards.

Yep, I am living in the one bedroom setup, smaller than you prob have in LOS, and according to Xe.com, I am paying the equivalent of : 21,398.24 baht per month for it. If I look behind me I can almost touch my unmade bed. It is exactly 3 footsteps from entering the room to the computer desk next to the window at the other side.

I know what it feels like to be a goldfish !

    Huh! You're lucky.
For most of the year, I live in a room where I literally could not swing a cat.
Bed, wardrobe and desk. No bathroom, I have to walk down a hall to crap or, shower. It's called a cabin.
Course, I don't have to pay any money. In fact I get paid good money to stay in it, but, that doesn't alter the fact that it's depressing as hell.
Also, it is constantly moving around.

    Well, nevermind that.

The first property I ever bought in Thailand was in Patong's very first Condo. A single room measuring 4 x 7 metres. Had a small balconey and a bathroom. I lived in it for a year. Couldn't stand it any longer.

The "apartment" in question is Summer mansion on Phahon Yothin soi 18/1 just a stones throw from the BTS / Subway at Mor Chit / Chatuchak Park. It's convenient for going jogging at the park ...but I've now realised that there's more to life that just jogging at the park and a real life away from all the neon, noise, traffic, now that I'm back (finally) in full time employment is absolutely imperative.

I should have been aware of how crap this block was when I came over to enquire, thing is, it's a pretty new building but when I went to ask about availability the old guy in a fading dark blue jumpsuit who ambled out of the office with a mop and a fag in his mouth told me that he was the apartment owner and I honestly thought he was trying it on. Turns out he is the owner.

Yep. There are actually places called 'Laundries', Pat. They're easy to find 'cos they smell of detergent & fabric conditioner & have clothes hanging everywhere. Now, in these mysterious places, you can get your dirty sheets washed & dried & they might even iron the things for you. Drawback, you do have to pay for this magical service, but hey, you're saving 5,000bt per month on your rent, so go wild!!

Oh and don't get me started about how shit this area is for that kind of thing - two murky mom and pop shops in the whole road.

My first year in thailand i lived at suk soi 34 in a one room apartment, it was 38 sqm small.
I could stand it for 6 month, then i moved to an 2 bedroom condo at pahonyothin road. That was nice, 16k baht a month.
I lived there for an year before i moved to a 2 floor house in a beautiful village at jomtien. (25k)
Then i moved back to bangkok, ram inthra hi-so village, 2 floor house 23k.
After an year i moved to an ratchadaphisek condo, 2 bedroom 16k
After about 14 month now i will move to huahin. Looking for an house for about 15-20k....

Before i would have to live in an 5k one bedroom hole, i would move back to germany and better live there and make some money.
Cant understand whats the sense of living in thailand and even dont have the money to live in an good european standart....
