In all my time in Thailand I have always given myself the space and luxury of at least 75 Sq Metres of living space, ie a separate living and bedroom and a bathroom where I can swing a cat should it be necessary to do so.
I recently took a Thai friends advice and decided to save on money and get one of these one room set-ups, where you chill out, relax, watch TV, get pissed and entertain within view of the bed, all in one space, does rather become tiresome after a couple of weeks. In fact now I f**king hate it.
Seeing my unmade bed, dishevelled duvet and the bloodstain from where me and a GF couldn't keep our selves off eachother even when she was menstruating is a constant reminder that I need to wash the bedclothes, and then if I did launder the duvet and sheets, there's the small matter of there is no balcony, just an area where the aircon thingy is and a small area of outside space with enough area to hang up a plastic cheap underwear hanging thing if I ever fancied hand washing some Y-fronts and socks in an emergency. I can't even hang the f*cking laundry out unless I was a midget. Even then it'd only be two sets of clothes at the most due to the space, or lack of it.
Also, the security and cleaners are nosey f*ckers too, I made the mistake of being nice to the young security guy and once bought him a can of coffee. Three days later he knocked on my door just after midnight knowing when I was alone, cadging a cigarette off me. I should have slammed the door in his face. At all the other complexes I've lived on, there have been several security who respect the residents, as the residents I have lived amongst in the past have been pretty well-to-do, ie, rich and of high social rank.
The bunch of low class folk I share this sorry block with are not worth pissing on if they were on fire I'm sad to say, and they have sometimes three to one room and make so much noise (luckily that don't bother me) that I wonder if there's a youth club running just down the corridor.
I suppose I only have myself to blame. I normally budget at least 10,000 Baht a month for living and this place is of the 5,000 Baht a month variety. As they say you get what you pay for.
So I have decided to just piss off out of here after two months of a six month contract. I haven't paid the rent as of last month and I will not be paying at the end of this month. They have my deposit so they can keep all of that to make it up. Ok, I stand to lose a couple of grand but where I will be moving on to is well worth it at the end of the month.
I will also be staying at a hotel for a week so am looking forward to a bit of luxury in that sense as well.
Phew!
