texpat used to have an inspired touch in his posts, but now strikes out most at bats. Eg. snide comments about the deathtoll in Burma, and then a post about how the country could do with less mouths to feed.

Its not ennui with Thailand. Its Forumitis, ...the only way is downward, & the only reversion is to mean.

Must admit, he never used to spew personal insults when you didn't agree with his position.
Obviously, stressed out from something in the real world.

I don't see much substance on either side, which is why I stay away.

But, I think you're wrong when you call that crowd "patriotic conservatives". They are neither patriotic nor conservative; they are simply selfish materialists who hide their greed behind the US flag.

But, I'm done with this thread. Nothing but endless rancor when you start talking "politics".

If this is in any way related to my comment yesterday - I will say again that all of us homo sapiens are the cancer of the planet.

America gets most of the flack because it considers itself the capital of the world, it's a bit like taking on the biggest bully in the playground.

Texpat is one of the most aimiable and clued up Seppos I have met, and he barbeques chicken in a way that would make a South African proud. I am confident he is smart enough not to take criticism of the US government as a personal attack.

At the end of the day I'd rather live there than China.

The US government are scumbags like most others, just more powerful, and the American people are as much victims of the US governmant than anyone else, most of them just don't know it.

It was triggered after reading some of Texpats posts on Kawasakis in Thailand.

I was listening to an interview this morning on Aljazeera of a US board member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

His comments were quite interesting in this connection. He observed that the US has enjoyed several decades after the cold war of unchallenged hyperpower status, but that the whole global picture has changed now.

He says the US must share power with emerging powers, China, India, Russia, and at the same time, realize that small disruptive and dispersed powers, such as al qaeda, Hammas & Hezbollah and others also have a strange new kind of power.

He hinted that the new power sharing would take a lot of the heat off the US in the future only if emerging powers like China act responsibly, not nationalistically, and align themselves with other global powers.

The upshot is that in this new global order, countries like China may start taking a lot of criticism instead of the US. For example, look at the situation in Burma, and China's inactions and blockages at the security council.

With the olympics coming up in Beijing, we are going to see China finally start to take some global flack.

Maybe Texpat can get some relief.

I can tell you with total confidence that non of the Mexicans i am friends with have the desire to be US citizens and are extremely proud to be Mexican.

In another thread Texpat was saying how he wished the UK would be the victims of some more bombing attacks, sorry but this is just wrong.

Yeah, I remember when he first had a pop at me a year ago when drunk, he pmed me to apologise, which wasn't necessary.
By now he spews far worse vitriol on a regular basis.

Even though the Issues Forum should be as the above charter states and would be a great place to exchange views and opinions, it too often devolves into a cacophony of personal attacks between member's with opposing opinions. Once Forumitis (thanks for that Redneck) breaks out it rapidly spreads turning the thread into a mindless display of irrelevant moronism. Through it all I still persevere in the Issues Forum as I do enjoy a lively exchange of opinion and have a high tolerance for moronism. I have even been criticized by a certain member for "Being too nice most of the time". Odd criticism but it's just an opinion.

Texpat on the other hand has near zero tolerance so when the shite starts being aimed at him he returns fire. As a few have already said, Texpat has contributed many well thought out posts but lately some have been harsh and below his standard. Having watched this happen over several months Texpat is reacting to a situation where it seems no matter what he posts he gets attacked by a few members who carry a personal grudge against Texpat because of his opinions.

Yes, Jet. That's exactly what we socialists want. For you to work hard in the US/Canada, so your tax will go to the US/Canadian Govt who will then send us (mainly non-American) 'socialists' living here in Thailand nice, fat welfare cheques. Can you fix it for us?
