    One For 'The Fish Keeper'

    Footballer fish hits the net

A goldfish that can limbo, play football and do the slalom has thrashed the long-held belief that the species is not too bright

Two-year-old Comet has been taught an impressive array of skills by its owner who rewards him with some food every time he successfully completes a task.

Los Angeles-based Dr Dean Pomerleau, 41, used a technique called positive reinforcement which is also used to train dolphins and other marine mammals.

Dr Pomerleau is also the world record-holder for owning a fish with the largest repertoire of tricks, which unsurprisingly is named Albert Einstein.

However, Comet could be about to usurp him, to take the crown of the world's most intelligent goldfish.

If he could get two fish to play against each other, that would be amazing. Imagine the gambling potential.

    Nemo held after hotel incident

Billy the fish AKA Comet has been detained under the Mental Health Act following an incident at a hotel in Newcastle.
Northumbria Police said a 2-year-old goldfish was detained following a report of disorderly behaviour at the Malmaison Hotel early on Wednesday.
Officers later visited Mr Comet at Gateshead's Hilton Hotel after concerns were raised about his behaviour.

Police said he was not in custody and was now receiving medical treatment.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Police attended the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead yesterday evening after we received a report of concern for a 2-year-old fish staying at the hotel."
"The fish was detained under the Mental Health Act, and no-one was injured during the incident."

    Fish party

Comet has battled for some time with alcohol and health problems.
Last year he underwent emergency surgery for a perforated stomach ulcer after being taken ill as he was celebrating his 2nd birthday.
He was arrested for an alleged assault on a vetinary photographer outside a Liverpool city centre hotel in 2005. The charges were later dropped.

I hope he can get his life back on track ... what potential

I now have a plan for my retirement. Will be using a smarter fish than a goldfish though.
