There isn't a lot he can do.

Does this woman know his address and such? If the worse got to the worst couldn't he get a new job and move out of town? I guess that isn't really an option.

He should really confess gently because sooner or later his wife will find out and it will be very hurtful if it dosen't come directly from her husband. Women have a certain way of finding out these things and I'm sure his guilt is starting to show physically especially having to witness his daughter crying.

This sort of reminds me of a film I watched a while ago....
