Free range chicken

Does anyone prefer to buy free range chicken in Thailand ?

I wanted to cut back on the ubiquitious pork dishes I eat and replace it with chicken and fish more often - thinking that free range chicken would be better than Thai factory farmed chicken , I asked how much it was at the market and was told about 250 baht a kilo vs 80 baht for the steriod version

and fish ? knowing how unscrupulous asian business people are , if finding farmed fish that has not been fed with ground up john does and chinese sourced groth hormones , is difficult ?

I am interested to hear of experiences of people who try or are able to eat more organic meat in Thailand

Likewise. Just checked the one I bought this morning at Foodland, 120 Baht per Key vs 330 Baht per Key at Paleo Robbies and there'd be delivery fees to add. They'd want to be fucking good, the Betagro ones certainly are at about a third of the price.

If they are Organic they have to be approved organic.

I read somewhere they can satisfy the 'free range' criteria if there's an accessible hole large enough so that the chicks are 'free' to wander outside.

What we do. Only have about 10. Get eggs but don't eat the chickens.

Buy fryers and roasters from cousin who has stall in local market.

Know what they are fed and how they are raised so no worries.

We have free range chickens at home but a lot have names and I'm too soft to kill them.

Our pond is full of organic pla nin and pla tabtim but they take an awful long time to grow. Taste good though.

Balders, what's quite clear is you need to move else the Chicken proportion of your monthly living cost will get out of hand. You can get a 2kg chook in the UK for 120bht, well £3 actually. So its either buy Chico's Land and raise your own or move to the UK or give up chicken.

Noting, there is no comparison like homegrown "free-range" eggs and in some cases [depending on how they're raised/kept] the same applies to the chooks.
