Thread: U-Beer. Anyone tried it?

Made by Singha, and only recently appeared out here. Actually, it is only available at one shop around here so far. I tried a few today, for the second time- it hardly busts the bank, at 53bht per bottle.

We have a few worthy ale swillers on the TD team- just wondering if you may have tried it, and what your impressions were. I'll give you my tasting report tomorrow morning.

Yep. It is just beer. If you bought me one I wouldn't refuse it.

Saw the bottles but didn't buy any. The marketing and packaging looks like it's trying to be some sort of new age trendy beer for 18 year olds.

Tastes quite nice, easy to drink a lot quickly, no aftertaste like some Thai beers.

Will need to test drive it at home properly without it being drowned in ice.

It seems the TD boozers brigade have all retired and gone to heaven.

Anyway, I was a bit reticent to try this stuff, given previous tastings of Cheers and Archa. Bleggh. But in the end I did- first session was just two bottles.

Rather nice actually- I was surprised. A bit fruitier than Thai beers, kinda Euro style (more hoppy?). Left no dry tasting Changover effect either.

Second session was worthy, yesterday morning- five bottles. Just in the mood I guess (and heck, Songkhran). Quite enjoyable, and equally to the point- went home for my traditional siesta, woke up feeling quite fine. No dry mouth to speak of, absolutely no Changover (after five bottles of that stuff jeez- my mouth feels like the bottom of a budgie cage). It even felt easier compared to Leo, but it's the same alcohol content.

So a worthy addition to the utterly mediocre Thai beer range. Try it! You might just like it too.

^ How do you rate it against Tiger? I think my taste buds are shot?

I tried U a couple of weeks back. Thought it a bit weak tasting. I'll stick to Heineken and Dark Beer Lao, thank you.

Any idea of the calorie count?

I think San Mig Lite is 100, Singha 130, Leo 160.

Who don't even know what they want. Too busy trying to sniff the barmaid's apron.

Tried it last month. Won't bother again. A bit lighter in colour than the rest of the run of the mill lagers here and held a good head (probably because it was fresh). Nothign to write home about.

They should actually try brewing something with....I don't know....hops in it for starters.

I drank it for a week during the Hua Hin cricket sixes and thought it was better than any other beer previously brewed in Thailand including Heineken, Tiger and San Miquel.

I fancy one now but there was none in the 7-11.

If it doesn't taste like piss then you are probably right.
