    Dill,

I wont repost the picture. But its number 3. Your problem is not knots, but physics. Thus I can be of no help.

Sorry, I don't know the knot that you show, but there is a special knot used to tie hammock supports. When I had a hammock I googled for the details and found full instructions.

However, I also see in your photo that your hammock is above a hard surface. I did the same about 2 years ago at my hotel.

2 days earlier, I had fallen off a ladder, falling 2 metres onto a concrete surface on my shoulder, resulting in ripped ligaments.

I put up my hammock to relax in, used the wrong sort of knot, climbed into the hammock and it collapsed, dropping me 80cm onto the concrete/tiled floor, landing on the injured shoulder again.

I still suffer shoulder pain from those 2 hard falls.

Suggestion: Double check that your hammock knots are good and won't slip. If possible, install the hammock above a grassy surface. If you're going to install it above a hard surface, mount the hammock low down, so you're not going to fall too far if the knots give way!

Why not just put a clamp on the tree and tie it to that?

    Or....

    Or....

Not a clamp....not secure. Hooped spikes will work.

If one hasn't obtained the simple skill/reasoning to tie a fucking hammock between two points, than you don't deserve the fucking hammock.

    End of.

    This is the correct answer

We use this to tie off all kinds of shit. Does NOT slip and will come apart easily when unloaded.

This knot and the bowline knot are the 2 knots any grown man need to know and will work for most anything. Both are totally secure and come apart easily regardless of how tight they got, when unloaded.

The clove hitch will solve this issue 100% guaranteed.

For my hammock, I got a big shackle at each end. You can then tie as complicated a knot as you want, but can always unscrew the shackle to move the hammock.

    Shackle is a good idea.

There is also something to be gained learning 2 real basic and incredibly useful knots that can be used for a whole bunch of stuff with the confidence to know that they will not come undone or slip and can be untied without cutting the rope in frustration

Yep. Both good ones. Learned both plus many more 54 years ago in Navy boot camp. Never knew at the time when knowing how to tie a knot would come in handy.

Dillinger, you need to tie the knot higher on the tree. You've run agound. Keel is dragging.
