First Fatality of the 7 Dangerous Days

First Fatality of the 7 Dangerous Days

Thai Male First Victim of the 7 Dangerous Days

In the build up to New Year, police have stepped up their game for road safety in an attempt to reduce accidents and fatalities. The have labeled the period from December 30th until January 5th as the “7 Dangerous Days”.

Unfortunately, it took only 1 hour 30 minutes for the “7 dangerous days” to claim its first victim. At 1:30am on the morning of December 30th, police and emergency services were called to the scene of an accident involving a single motorbike.

The incident took place at Jomtien 2nd road. At the scene, they found a 15 year old Thai male, who is yet to be named, lying dead in the middle of the road.

After speaking to witnesses, a friend of the deceased, a 16 year old Thai female again yet to be named, informed police that they were racing against each other, before the victim lost control and hit the central island, causing him to crash.

The friend rushed over to help, and found the young boy was still alive but seriously injured. He quickly called for police and emergency services, but it was too late. By the time they had arrived, the young boy had sadly passed away.

Police are strongly urging people to be sensible during the busy holiday, and have suggested that anyone wanting to enjoy a few drinks, to take a taxi, or get a life from a friend instead of driving.

..or get a life from a friend ...
    Is that an intentional typo?

25 Die in Fiery Chonburi Wreck

CHONBURI At least 25 people were killed Monday afternoon when a van and truck burst into flames after colliding in the Ban Bueng district of Chonburi province.
The van was traveling from Chanthaburi to Bangkok when it collided at about 2pm with the pickup on Highway No. 344. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames and 25 people died, including passengers and the driver of the van.
Bancha Pannum, a witness at the scene, said he saw the van drive through the intersection, cross several lanes and crash into the truck, which was also full of passengers.
The Bangkok-bound van driver might have fallen asleep while driving, according to a preliminary police report.

^Can you even begin to imagine the media coverage and ramifications of this if it happened in a Western country?. There'd be an inquiry, and laws put into place to lessen the likely hood of a repeat depending on the inquest findings. Here, absolutely sweet fuck all will happen even if exactly the same thing occurs every day for the next year...

When I first came here I'd drive all over the country with no big concerns. Then stopped driving at night due to a few close calls with brain dead imbeciles. Then stopped long road trips all together as day or night, it was clear these people had an inbuilt death wish defect. Now, driving 30 mins or so to local golf courses and puttering around town is as far as I'll push my luck.
