Thread: No Smoking - No 'India'

OPINION — This piece of paper was given to me while I was out flat hunting.

The lovely people working at Baan Chao Phraya Condo showed me a few apartments, and eventually gave me this list of available units. I noticed the odd remark immediately.

I’ve heard of apartment owners denying people rental contracts on the basis of race in other South-East Asian cities, but I had never experienced it in Bangkok. I have since found out that it really isn’t an uncommon occurrence here. Indians (and brown people in general, or “Khaeks,” like me), bear the brunt of this phenomenon.

Luckily, I didn’t like the apartment.

I also would prefer not to have a racist asshat as a landlord, to be perfectly honest......

So the political correct guy is livid that they don't want to rent to Indians, but totally OK with the '' no children'' bit

As Dapper mentioned there's probably a sound reason that of all the nationalities, the ONE he won't rent to is Indians.

the owner of the apartment is perfectly entitled to decide who occupies it on whatever basis he wants.

That's correct, and in Thailand he's probably OK with what's written, try this in a developed country however and you are leaving yourself exposed.

sadly, yes.

whilst it should be mandatory for companies and businesses that deal with the public to offer services to all in a non-discriminatory manner, i believe that individuals, such as those renting homes, should have the right to choose who they accept.

Could not pay the mrs to go in an Indian restaurant, even abroad, they and their food 'min mark loy' apparently, where as Thai food does not stink the place out

Yup, these days you need to be very careful how you handle people.

My father has been a publican all his life in Bleighty, the law states he can refuse anybody he deems not fit or simply does not want to serve, have to be careful how this is applied to some races, they are strait off to the race relations board the next morning, regardless of how pissed and difficult they were the night before.

Only a fucking idiot would rent out to an Indian in Thailand. Similarly, I wouldn't rent out to Koreans, Chinese or Russians.

Only tenants I have had problems with are Thais and Brits. Mostly the Koreans and Indian people renting here are on company deals and are pretty good, tbh.

I remember reading about one of the first group tours from India who checked into a Suk hotel.

When they checked out, the staff sent housekeeping to check the rooms and they had all taken everything. Including Bedding and Curtains!

When challenged, they claimed that they thought it was all included in the room rate.

Renting from a mussie in uk can be disturbing.
Cnuts come around every week or month
and chastise folk for not being clean
pointing out the stains on cooker or wall.
For one young lady it was all too much
and she burst out crying at the lil mussie.
They demand entry into the premises to check everything is in order.
Sometimes i've heard they enter when no one is at home and nick stuff.

They are perceived to have certain reputations.
And they have company, as well, along these judgments.

Had a Muslim landlord in the UK 1974, bugger used to offer free rent week if he could fvck one of the girls he fancied, Nadeem he was called, horrible sod.
