    Is alcohol overrated?

If I have more than 2-3 big bottles of Leo, Singha, Cheers whatever - I usually wake up about 3am the next morning then can't get back to sleep, or I sleep as lightly as if I'd had an espresso before bedtime.

In otherwords I'll have what I refer to as a 'beer sleep' resulting in fatigue and feeling hotter, heavier eyed and sweatier than usual the next day.

Has anyone actually managed to quit booze in Thailand? It's nigh on impossible to quit smoking here but drinking is something that goes hand in hand with socializing and unless you have no mates it seems impossible to avoid.

Drinking lots and lots of beer/alcohol has just that one positive - it's a social relaxant, and for smokers the drink and the tabacco compliment each other.

Over the years my consumption of alcohol has resulted in falling asleep on pavements, making a fool of myself, vomiting, bad guts, unhealthy liver, over consumption of cigarettes, carelessness resulting in HIV tests, violence towards friends, bedwetting, over spending, severe nausea and headaches, time wasting, failed relationships, and risking my life in many ways.

I do not drink as much as I used to and the fatigue described in the first paragraph is as bad as it gets these days, though it's still a shite way to live.

Is alcohol over rated and can any of you out there, (out here) live without it?
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

definitely overrated when used in overabundance like im sure most people do at some point. By the sounds of it, you have overused, falling on the sidewalk is a serious sign you are an alky, and need to be in serious rehab. Take a couple of tylenol before bed, with a bottle of water chaser, and you'll have a much restful sleep.

I've taken a wide range of drugs and the booze is by far the hardest thing I have ever come across. It can really take a hold of soul and the worst thing is when your are in its grip you don't even know it. it can take months for the fog to clear and you suddenly look back and think WTF was i doing?

You're right. It's just a passing fad and will never catch on.

The times I have been in a state enough to sleep on the pavement, or all of the other bad stuff - It has been due to lack of food BEFORE going out, not so much drinking for 12hrs solid - which can be done on a potato base.

By the way, what is tylenol?

As for a water chaser, I have tried drinking two or three large bottles of water before I go to bed. The next morning the hangover is not so bad but I am usually soaking wet and have a 'Map of Africa' on my mattress.

I think CMN is the one to ask about giving up alcohol, he has given up nearly 20 times in the last six months alone.

    coupla weeks.

i only started again last time because of slimboyfat.
when surasak does his trip next week I'm staying home.

I have started some pretty rigorous exercise, I am up with the lark for a jog every morning before gym and swimming pool.
    Finished by 10 am.

I'm going to start a thread about how to kick the booze and get fit tomorrow.

Don't you have to work? I think if I didn't work i'd be out of my head 24/7.. The devil will find work for idle hands and all that. I find if you work you don't have to time to get drunk regularly.

What's this cryptic post about? Was there a cardoor incident during some secret meeting?

i actually leaked a bit of urine into my trousers last night. i was waiting 30 minutes for a damn taxi (they all go into hiding from 11pm until midnight). I then realised that overflow was imminent, got to a shopping centre only to find the toilets were closed - dashed behind the shopping centre only to find there was a packed restaurant there, went to the car park and had to locate an area not covered by CCTV. I almost made it but not quite.

Gave up finding a taxi as saw my bus was coming.

Apologies to all on bus number 145 last night.

    I agree in the main.
I never really feel like a drink after the first 2 days.
    It's pure habit with me.
I just find another one, but when i start again i go at it full kilter.
    very all or nothing.

Yeah, we could do with an "addict" thread.

For me it's either one thing or the other, or a combination.
I do have a few days without any stimulants other than tea and cigs almost every year though, usually when I stay with my parents.
