Seems like the missus wants out anyway. Kick her to the curb, pal, and let the dog sleep on her side of the bed.

    Talk.
    Compromise.
    Time.

Dogs do stink the place up especially if you have carpeted floors or let them sit on the furniture. You could agree to restrict the dog to only the easy to clean rooms on the ground floor like the laundry, garage and or kitchen, and keep the dog clean with a weekly bath.

Well we had a few friends around for dinner and one couple had got a new puppy the same day and the dad was not happy.
to cut a long story short after a few drinks everyone came to the conclusion that he was a lovely dog and should stay.
He is well suited to our family, let's hope the wife feels the same in the cold light of day.

Dogs start to smell if you bath them too much. Once every 6 months is enough. Bathing strips the hair of its natural oil and the dog then produces this to replace the oil and that is when dogs smell worst.

    Get a brush like...

and use it once a week to pull out dead hair and to stop it malting. If it sheds head all the time, then there is a brush called Furminator which will strip half the hair out, reducing the problem.

One thing to remember about a collie dog is their amazing training ability. I reckon a Thai will never have seen a well trained dog in their lifes, and the OP has an opportunity to take the mutt and her to dog agility classes. Imagine the effect it will have on the typical thai to be surrounded by cheering people as she has a rosette pinned to her chest all because of a dog! It would send her "Face Meter" into overload.

I'm sure he'll be able to locate a decent canine training and agility center here, as they're quite numerous...

We have endeavored "not," to have animals, however the animals have a different take on that.

We have a Tahi Ridgeback female who escaped her owner to our house. Seems her owner likes to raise dogs for meat. He is also the Ban's worst drunk.

We ignored the dog for days. Never feed or pet it. It remained. My wife hates it, so she feeds it? Now the dog will never leave.

Wife decides its all my fault. I agree. the dog sleeps on the steps every night, shows up at 5 for feeding and generally has the run of the acarage.

Dogs been gone for three days now. Back again. Breeding season. Soon we'll have babies...as I said we don't want animals....

about three months ago, someone left a kitten in a plastic bag outside of her aunt's house, just a stones throw away from my place.
my gal, a self professed hater of cats, somehow found it in her to bring it home.
it was i'm guessing 3 weeks old, but still should have been on the tit. but the worst thing was, besides it's scabby eyes and nose & malnourished body, it's back legs were totally disfunctional.
i'm not pissed off, but thinking at most it will cost me about half a can of tuna and 3 minutes on a shovel to dig a small hole when it dies.
i figured it had been run over, or kicked and was paralyzed....i didn't think it had broken legs because i could pick it up and it wasn't in any pain.
so i just started feeding it tuna and scrambled eggs, it had a crazy big appetite.
eventually, i noticed it's back legs were functioning, not much at the start but it was trying.
i went offshore for 4 weeks and came back and the cat was nearly normal. my gal has it in the house, gives it a shower every other day, meticulously goes over it for ticks.
it's gone from a hopeless case in a 7-11 bag to possibly the most pampered house cat in n.e. thailand.
it's a constant source of entertainment for us both.

anyways....what i'm trying to say is, maybe the worm will turn and your missus will fall in love with that gorgeous dog.
You are one of the luckiest man in Thailand to have found a lady with a heart of gold. Class act. Treat her right and she'll be taking care of you when your legs go wobbly too.

A dog is an addition to the family and you erred by buying it behind her back.

But she is being a bit unfair as the kids will really benefit by way of becoming responsible for caring for the mut.

I'm sure she will come around and eventually love the dog just as much as the rest of the family.

Stay patient and hope the mut doesn't bite her or even worse chew her shoes.

Nice idea LT - However I'm bored hearing about these blokes whipped by their wives.

Stand up for yourself. Walk up to her, say "Woman, listen, we have a dog now so stop your bloody whining. Go get me a cold one, shut the fuck up, or you can piss off back to Thailand and de-husk rice for 3 baht an hour". Then, slap your cock around her head a few times and happy days.

Great dogs Collies but boy do they need plenty of excersise and metal stimulation. If you dont, its gonna wreck your house. Where was it for the first 6 months of its life may i ask ?

I lost my dog of 14 years last November, now have a Rhodesian Ridgeback bitch of 6 months, shes been responding well to training but still enjoys the odd shoe, table leg or anyones sandwich left for more than 10 seconds.

Well, in that case - a couple of cats would suffice nicely.
